About scoobyrood

  1. Cheers guys, I had the same confusion when I changed the caliper... do I buy the upgraded brake kits... and then hit the problem with wheel size and clearence. I've gone for the easy and cheep option of getting some Tarox discs (drilled and groved) so it matches alround (might be them on there at the moment). Fingers crossed on the cracking. Will try the Ferrodo pads - seem to have good reviews. Wasn;t sure about the K-Sport nearly brought them before but found some poor reviews (cheep but not great). Good idea on the lines and fuild - if I need more improvement I'll try that next. As for the fuel tank, decided on a used tank. Figger its half the price, so in the worst case scenario I need to do it again, which is no dearer. Thanks Again
  2. I'm not having much luck with my Scooby - think this one was a "Friday Car".... First I blew up my engine (top n bottom) having a raz on the way back from le mans this summer. Replaced WRX engine with STI (not fitted the turbo / exhaust yet).... cost £4,500 (when I only brought the car 2/3 months before for £6,500). So it wasn't the best start. Then, the braking didn't seem great. And one garage said the pads were jammed (so replaced pads with red stuff), no massive improvement. So another garage had a look, and didn't have a Scooby about the Scooby. A third gave the brakes a good service, and identified a seized piston in the off side calliper. So I brought a new calliper and sprayed it red (£120 sliver - £450 same thing red) Noticed an improvement, but still a bit dodgy. So with time going by, it's getting worse and think I’ve identified the front discs are warped (it gets worse when running hot, and is making a whaling noise). Next, I had unleaded pouring out the fuel tank when filling up - the RAC and Garage B both recommended driving with a 1/2 full tank. This worries me with morning due and fords getting wet fuel, and wrecking my new STI engine. So two things on shopping list; Brakes and Fuel Tank. Fuel Tank --------- Can't find much online with others having the same problem. Apparently the weld in the top of the camel pack is giving way. A new tank is £700 plus fitting which involves removing the rear axle, so a new tank starts from £1000 plus surprises. A second-hand tank can be found on eBay for £100 or so, so can probably get it replaced for £500 - but I worry similar aged tanks might go the same way. Has anyone else had this problem? STI and WRX are both 60l, does anyone know if its the same part? If so, I've seen an STI tank on eBay I might buy. Brakes ------ So seems i've wasted money on pads and callipers... The cars been upgraded to have drilled and grooved discs which I like (the idea that they'll perform and like the look - how vein?), so don’t want to go back to OEM discs. Scooby world have EBC discs, but there gold colour... Or Tarox which are sliver/grey/chrome... are they as good as EBC? (Similar price). Again petty, but im looking at having odd disc and an old caliper. Part of me it worried that I spend out on replacing the discs and then still unhappy - so wish I replaced the whole kit. Scooby Part's have a brembo kit for £1.2k but im unsure if I need STI wheels. All the top end brakes seem to be geared at the STI so I worry there's not enough clearance on my standard WRX wheels. 4. WR1 looks like a hoot! Miss it? I'll phone demon tweaks tomorrow, hopefully they'll be able to look up the measurements i need....
  5. Are Alcons not priced way over the 2k mark? What's "WR1"? sorry newbie on the forum :-/
  6. Thanks Lewis, Rebuilding isn't really an option due to having the risk of being without the car for a bit (friends have previously had trouble when getting them recon'ed). I'll probably service the old ones as spare once the new ones are on. Do you have AP's? You say 330 rotors, so it narrows it down to callipers 3,4 or 5. I'm nor sure what the other measurements are for... and im lacking a workshop manual. :-/ I was recommended demon tweaks: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/brake-calipers/a-p-racing-pro-5000-plus-brake-calipers They have 9 different sizes.... 7. Or these AP racing ones? just looking at the sizing table to see if any fit?
  8. Looking for new brakes...

  9. Hi All, Just poping in to see if I can ask for some advise? My brake performance has been poor for some time - two garages failed to identify the cause. I meet a wizzard last week who identified a problem in about 2 secs - a caliper on the front drivers side is ceased on. So time for some new front calipers... but which ones? The two main contenders seem to be 1) Brembo STI ones 2) K-Sport (6Pots) After a little review on the net there seems to be a few bad experiences with K-Sports (a couple of good ones though). Does anyone have any first hand experience of front disc upgrades on hawkeyes? I don't really want to change the wheels, and I don't really want to spend more than £1k. Just want better braking that would be suitable for the odd track day (when im allowed). Cheers in advance. Ainsley
  10. Cheers again.... The car arrived back in the Uk and delivered to TFS racing. Bad news is that the engine was completely screwed... Top and Bottom! Will add pics. So stews found an Sti engine he's dropping in. Shame it doesn't lead itself to being custom spec'ed as its not being rebuilt... But hear sTI is part forged anyway. Next mods are therefore clear; sti turbo and a remap. Unless there's other tips out there! Missing the motor (although been away most the time) looking forward to getting her back!
  11. Out in Australia.... never seen so many scoobs!

  12. Cheers Kenny, just been looking into them.... CP carrilo? Found the following, but there's three options for the WRX (EJ20) 92, 92.5 & 93m. Which ones do I need? http://www.shop-cppistons.com/categories/subaru/ Is the $280 a price for 4xpistons (i guess so it states "kits"). Would you do this with new liners / rods? CP dont seem to do them for the scoob. Did you use Cp / Wiseco then? Have you the standard valves? I'd imagien you get faster flow valves to make a difference?
  13. Cheers beefoss, I'll let you know what I found out. I wanted to use tfsracing as they have great reviews... I can't find much online re park stone garage; but the garage I brought it from thinks he can help me out more of I use their preferred garage as they've a relationship. I drove to there workshop on SAT to check the place put and he did have "Subaru speailist" printed on his van, Subaru flags in the workshop and a pimped scooby outside; so I'm not quite as concerned. I'll see what he recommends: but if peeps here have ideas im all ears!! 230-350 is more than enough for me!
  14. Hi all, just getting my 2006 2.5wrx brought back to the uk after a breakdown in France. I'm using Parkstone Garage in Poole. Anyone heard of them? So.... I suspect a timing tensioner gave up , which resulted in pistons beating my values... Don't know for sure until its back home and opened up. Question is; while the engines hoisted out are there any must do's? I.e uprated pistons, liners, rods, values etc... Anything that either boosts power or helps to hold it all together on a track? Might get it remapped while I'm there?? Most intrested in fairly low cost mods which are easy to loose in the grand scheme of the rebuild! Cheers guys!
  15. Cheers for the welcomes guys (and gals), should have uploaded a pic of my wheels OK... hope it uploaded OK. Just had RAC on the phone saying the French garage said the engine was beyond repair and a new one is required (complete with a £5k bill). Sad Times. Looking at getting her home and repairing her (rebuilding the engine)... will be looking out for idea on forum (i.e. Might as well put these pistons in... or these Cam's are the same price but give better HP)
