About RS4V8

  1. Cheers Its a sprint blue Saloon buddy.... (still own the beast) with buckets and flat bottom steering wheel...simply the best car I have owned - so far pretty much VAG predominantly in the past - although saying that Ive had 2 MR2 Turbos and an FTO GPX - years ago..(Mrs has an EP3 Type R) so I still have a passion for Jap will dig out some pics for sure....
  2. I would "possibly" go for a classic (RB5) but I have an age related plate I want to put on it hence it needs to be a blob eye really....... Plus IMHO Blobs are the ones that "do it for me" (quite fancy a sinister black one with anthracite rims) decisions decisions!
  3. still sussing the market out really mate - and trying to understand the differences and sort out the STi replicas etc (not knocking anyone with a WRX fettled up to STi spec) prices seem to range anywhere from £6 > £9.5k which doesnt help me LOL..... really do appreciate peoples efforts to reply thanks all.......some really interesting comments
  4. thanks chaps... to be honest I'm prepared for the "difference" in interiors etc but I'm after something rather raw and feel that a blob STi is just the ticket.... (I forgot to add Im trying to "be good" with my budget as Im starting my own business ((hence the RS4 is going after 3 years of much much loved ownership)) - so although I wouldn't mind a WR1 Im trying to put a cap on it financially - although I can afford to run an STi just to clarify and would not be doing this on a shoe string so to speak.... but will refrain from getting carried away as the main reasons behind it are to free cash up and get something equally as "entertaining" - seems like such a lot of STi for your money! (I do love that icey WR1 blue - and saw one a while back pulling away from a junction, looked ballistic when it came on boost - I had a little 5ex wee at the time, I felt like a youth back at the Lombard RAC Rally back in the day! - priceless!) I am quite looking forward to thrust of boost again (and in a way kind of welcome a bit of lag to emphasise that) - so it does sound like the 2L lump is the one to go for to obtain that feeling? (don't want to open the obvious can of worms LOL) had a quick look at blob WRX's too but I feel it must be an STi - will only be doing minimal mileage a year/no commute etc off to youtube for a bit before playing a bit more Dirt3 what are the main differences between an 04 and 05 Sti guys? much appreciate your input... (and also worried about the minefield of potential dogpoo examples out there that I will stumble on)
  5. G'day folks been lurking for a while and am basically considering moving on from my beloved Audi RS4 (B7) V8 and banking some cash. Always been a rally fan and particularly Scoobies... anyone been in a similar situation coming from an RS4 V8 to a Scoob? I fancy "bang for buck" and feel that a blob eye version 8 STi (UK) is potentially the way forward...I know you guys will be biased... the 0-60 and torque figures are similar but do you think I would get a smile each time I boot an STi as I do with the RS4? took a (1M) Leon Cupra R 225 out a few weeks back (standard example - with a view to mapping, but the character of the engine seemed boring) whereas the boxer four with already 260ish bhp should be more "grin inducing".....? (coming from VW R32 n V6's/V8's plus the odd four pot turbo/supercharged lumps - I like character and quite obviously the Scooby warble has bags of that...) An 04-05 blob eye has uneven headers doesn't it so the warble will still be present without much modding? just doing some forum searches on different models etc but am thinking of a 2004 2.0t (newbie so go gentle) - the 2.5 is only available later on in the/some Hawkeyes right? so it would be the 2.0 in an 04 Sti? (thus lower tax?) Do they feel particularly manic when on boost as I do quite like the appeal of a touch of lag then thrust as boost piles on....probably keep it "relatively" standard as in all honesty the 400+ odd BHP from my RS4 is quite difficult to exploit on UK roads ;-) - my god its revvy for a V8! Quite easy to get a 10% hike in power? is it a simple remap approach as per most of the VAG lumps? (read that airfilters alone with mapping isnt a great approach - surely the ECU adapts slightly to compensate for increased flow? basically I would aim for panel filter/recirc or fluttery valve and remap to 290-300 - shouldn't cost the earth should it? (I guess there is the PPP models to look out for) so from what I read - induction kits aren't necessarily a good thing on these motors....are there many dodgy mappers out there to be wary of - and how wpould I know when viewing/test driving such examples? also is the recirc valve silent? as I really dont want any vent to atmosphere hissing (any sound clips of different kinds?) I do however quite like the flutter sound but am aware thats generally turbo stall but are there any "sensible" valves to give a "diggadoo / boooh noise" instead of the hiss I used to get from my MR2 turbo HKS DV..... waffle over LOL ! I know theres plenty of info out there and as I say - Im still in the process of researching but thought I'd so Hi (so don't flame me for asking a few queries - thats what forums are for right :-) ) Has the "n1ckabil1ty and j0yr1de" factor died down since these motors first hit our shores - as this does sit in the back of my mind but I guess would and does with any performance motor? (insurance quote was cheaper than expected!) cheers guys!
