  1. For the amount of $$$ that was spent on the newer car vs. how much time was shaved off the lap, it really doesn't seem worth it.
  2. Summer tires for summer, spring, fall. Snow tires for winter. The end. All season tires do nothing well, and summer tires simply don't work in snow/sleet/ice.
  3. No problem. Just let me know what you're looking for and I'm sure we could work out the logistics of it. Not sure if it's the same there, but ordering stuff here from abroad can sometimes result in absolutely ridiculous shipping charges being applied simply because someone doesn't know how to ship internationally :-) PS: Stirling, eh? Very nice, I spent a few weeks roaming around that area now and then over the years
  4. Seeing as I'm in the states, if you're looking for anything in particular let me know and I can see what I can find for you.
  5. It's quite a bit of layering, compositing, and tweaking. I don't do it very often, but I have used the technique in the past with some pretty funky results. It's a similar process to shooting for an HDR photo, only I see image harvesting as applying more to field of focus.
  6. The best way to get detail in both background and foreground is to shoot with as small an aperture as is reasonable. Otherwise, if you shoot with a tripod, you may want to delve into "image harvesting."
  7. I've been a big fan of Nikon equipment since my first digital camera (a 950 back around 2000). At the moment, I shoot a D90 and love it. Granted, each new generation of dSLR cameras seems to increase in tech by an order of magnitude. That said though, I'm quite happy with the D90. The most important thing to think about are lenses though, that's where you start getting into serious money. I'd say research all your options then pick that which best suits what how you'd like to shoot (and what you'd like to shoot).
  8. It's entertainment. I don't think I've ever watched it with the expectation that it's a serious car review show. The US one though, I've seen it a couple times, dreadful.
  9. I've not used the DiNoc, but I have installed clear mask/bra on the front end of my car. Complex bends are a pain, but for a roof, if you take your time, plan the job out and have everything you need nearby it shouldn't be too bad. That's just gonna be a huge piece of vinyl.
  10. Normally don't like STI's in red, but that looks damn good sir :-)
  11. Looks good. I think it's a good addition to the bug-eye.
  12. Good morning. Yeah, the sways made a MASSIVE difference. The car no longer feels like a boat. I do need to set the front on the softer setting though to try to dial out some of the understeer that's still present. As for the RCE Yellows, Myles at RCE is a great guy to deal with. The springs themselves are great. The car looks a lot better with the 15mm drop and the higher spring rate really works well with the stock shocks. Oddly enough, the ride is better too. There's also a whole lot less nose-dive under hard braking. For the price, you really can't go wrong. Oh, one other mod I forgot about. I installed Group N motor and transmission mounts and stiffer rear subframe and differential bushings. It's a very subtle but noticeable difference. The car is a bit more responsive on the throttle as there's less slop in the drive train. If you need anything from the US just let me know and I'd be happy to help.
  13. Ja... I started using it. Nothing too exciting. I'd say it's greatest potential advantage over FB is the way it allows you to separate people on your friends list into independent circles. Makes keeping things discrete between friends, acquaintances, and colleagues.
  14. We get all kinds of weather here in PA. Snow and cold in the winters (sometimes down to -15℉) and then last week, we had some seriously hot weather (which was VERY miserable) around 100℉. As for fun that I've had with the STI. Well, I do autocross a few times per year and try to get the car on track now and then. I did an event at Watkins Glen last year with the Porsche Club. It's funny when someone with a Porsche GT3 comes up to you after a run and comments on how fast the STI was. As for mods, not a whole lot. I've done some ECU work with a Cobb AccessPort to clean up the factory tune. As far as suspension goes, I've got stiffer sway bars and solid end-links as well as RCE yellow springs. Brakes, I normally run Hawk HPS pads on the street, but for the track I use DTC-30's which bite like crazy. Other than that, and a set of Recaro Speed seats it's pretty tame. Incidentally, the wheels are Prodrive GT-1's. The car is more capable than I am so I feel no need to really increase power.
  15. For a second there, I thought you were trying to do a Sean Connery voice, hehe.
  16. I mess with Forza now and then. Never had any desire to buy a PS3. For those who play Forza, which are your fav tracks and cars?
  17. That first car looked like a Daewoo. Such complete and utter garbage. I'm sure that whoever it was at Lamborghini that initially designed the quintessential "lambo door" is either constantly crying or rolling in his grave.
  18. We may drive on the right side of the road, but at least most of us have our all our teeth. Been thinking about doing another trip to the UK before too long (want to get there before the dollar becomes even more worthless than it already is). As for where I'm at, Pennsylvania, in the north-eastern part of the country. I'd certainly be up for some track time next time I'm in the neighborhood (or shall I say neighbourhood).
  19. Yes sir, saw your post and figured I'd have a look at what's going on on the other side of the pond Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
  20. Well, at least us Yanks don't have a monopoly on stupid drivers.
  21. By request, a couple more pics with the Alfa in it.
  22. We got hitched at Tulloch castle just north of Inverness. 'Twas a small wedding, but a lot of fun. It's frakkin' cold there in May. My brother lives in Alaska and came for the wedding, even he was saying that it was freezing out and the locals were wandering around in t-shirts. If an Alaskan says it's cold out, that means something
  23. Hi guys. Just signed up on this forum to have a look around. I spend most of my time on IWSTI but wanted to broaden my Subie horizons a bit. Anyway, my username wasn't too inventive ;-) As for my connection to the UK, I love it there. My wife and I have been to the UK on many occasions (got married in Scotland back in 2005). I always look forward to driving while I'm there (once I manage to remember which hand shifts, that is). As far as what I like to do with cars, well, mainly autocross on a somewhat regular basis and track driving whenever the opportunity presents itself (and if I can afford it). Other interests include archaeology, travel, and photography. Here are a few pics of my ride and some other odds and ends: My STI and Alfa Romeo Autocross shot... Another autocross shot... My friend's STI and mine at Watkins Glen last year. Did a HPDE with Porsche club. Much fun indeed. Little brake shot. Yeah, I think I've got a brake fetish. A random STI I saw while at the Nurburgring in March 2010. Met Sabine Schmit at a VLN race that was goin' on while I was at the 'ring. Very laid back and friendly. Just another random shot of my baby on a pretty good driving road...
