  1. thanks for the replies everyone. I got the radiator changed. this meant at least i could drive it home (5 miles and no problems - so that was a bonus) i'm now mulling over my options. scooby specialists seem pretty rare in the southampton area. hope everyone has a good christmas. Jonny
  2. thanks for the messages. i'm in southampton.
  3. cheers matty. hi mark - just driving home from work last week (a four mile journey) I didn't notice it starting to overheat, but when i pulled up outside the house it was steaming and temp gauge up to max. on investigation it had a crack in the plastic section at the top of the radiator. got it recovered to a mate's garage (a picador) hoping it was just going to be a replacement rad job. he's done a head gasket test (the colour test) he said it changed colour pretty quickly in just a few seconds so he's got onto the local dealership for me and they've quoted him nearly £2000 (actually closer to £1500 cos he knows one of the guys there) for the head gasket job, cam belt (recommended) and a new rad/ coolant etc. they reckon about 10 hours work!! still feeling totally gutted.
  4. hello everyone. i'm new to the forum (but have lurked for a while). this is my pride and joy and it's badly broken. I heard today it's failed a head gasket test and needs a new radiator. Have been quoted the best part of £2000 to get it all sorted and I am genuinely gutted - can't really afford this now - just buying a house, and I just don't know what to do. I'm nearly in tears as I write this. I love that car. sorry my first post on the forum's such a bring down. I thought writing this down might make me feel better... ...it hasn't!
