About sjl71

  1. Hi All Newbie 2008 Impreza Rx owner here. Moving from 2010 Legacy Navplus to 2008 Rx Auto (non aspirated) due to personal and financial circumstances (wife made redundant and need to save finances). I have been a Subaru owner for over 7 months now and It has been the best car I have ever owned and I have had 14-15 cars to date (aged 40). Change in circumstances has meant that I was not moving away from Subaru as once bitten then have to stay with great car. Nearly bought Wrx but insurance quotes for 40 yr old with 9 yrs protected ncb ranged from £700 to £1200 - this is nuts. Insurance for RX auto £340 for year- which is a little bit easier to digest. I was looking for some advice as to what mods would you recommend doing to car to improve overall handling and performance (albeit its a non aspirated car with limited options to increase bhp etc)...... All advice is appreciated. Getting car on weekend around 9th to 10 April. Can't wait....... Best wishes and Safe driving to all.......... Scott
  2. Hi All Changing over from Legacy to Impreza Rx auto. 40 yrs old with 9 yrs protected no claims and getting quoted anything from £400 to 700 for a non aspirated 2008 impreza. Was thinking of getting WRX but being quoted silly money min £750 pa up to £1200. This is nuts as I am not some young boy racer...... it pays to shop around....... I am thinking I will save up my pennies for the next 2 years and then go for a WRX or STI afterwards when more funds are available. I have found that once you have a scooby then there is no going back hence moving from Legacy to Impreza. Might get cheaper insurance - or should I say more reasonable insurance when I am nearly 50. By that point I might not be able to fit into a sporty Impreza and might look at larger Legacy again. As per other comments above, I think the Insurers make it up as they go along..... there is no logic to their rationale and arguments for over inflated insurance premiums. Continue to enjoy your Scooby's even when petrol appears to be going thru the roof.... Best Wishes and safe driving to you all Scott
  3. Hi All Just a quick message to thank all the staff at Ian Grieve Subaru in Falkirk (especially Charlie in Service Dept) for helping me with my newly purchased demo White Legacy Se Navplus over the last few days even though I bought it from another dealer down south. car had a few issues - ie recalls were needed to be done- and unfortunately yesterday an incident on the motorway saw a truck in front hit debris and then pass this onward to my vehicle. The whole passenger side of car was scuffed from front to rear. I was well chucked off....... Despite this the guys at Ian Grieve, at no cost, valeted and polished the car and got all the scuffs out apart from 1 minor hairline mark that is not visibly noticeable unless you know its there. They did this while the car was in to get some mods done - already arranged prior to motorway incident. Many thanks for your support and help with my turbulent 1st days as a Subaru owner. I am now starting to enjoy my lovely new car and I am happy knowing that there is plenty of support from a friendly supportive local dealership and other forum members close-by. Many thanks again to all the staff at Ian Grieve Scott
  4. Thanks for the update and advice. Kind regards Scott
  5. Hi Just bought a demo legacy 2.5 lineartronic Se navplus in white and very happy with car apart from one thing.... the ride.... Car has 18 inch wheels and 225 45 tyres on it at present - ride just too sporty for me as feels every bump in the road....... no problem on motorways etc Test drive was down south 200 miles away from home, (only place selling white demo model) and roads were great there but back home roads are rubbish hence total difference in ride comfort. It would be appreciated if you could advise what combination of alloy and tyre would work best bearing in mind that existing brakes will have to still be supported. I was thinking moving down to 17 inch alloys but not too sure about tyre size for good all round grip and comfort with nothing too sporty. This is my first Subaru and impressions great at first but would like this little issue resolved as its spoiling my full enjoyment of my new ride. Many thanks for any suggestions and best wishes to all Subaru owners Scott
