Have just spent the best part of half a day on the bodywork. Finally got round to giving it the full bhoona. Wash Autoglym intensive tar remover Meguiars quik clay bar start kit followed by the Werkstat acryllic kit. And what a result. 1st time using the Autoglym tar remover and claying. Tar remover brilliant and so easy. Just sprayed it on, left for a minute and wiped off runing tar. Claying also v easy. Made sure had plenty lube on and it worked a treat. Hard work but the results are well worth it. Thanks for all the tips. Dougie

Hi Mark. I used to stay closer to Glasgow until a few years ago. And I've also got a Spec D. Just seen the pic of your motor without the spoiler. Looks v nice! Only know of 1 other Spec D. Always look out for them though! Dougie

No. What I meant to say is - Does the ecu reset when the battery is disconnected? Ano Chris. Sorry, I didn't know if you'd left or not. No doubt I'll be in again for summat else! Brakes soon!

Glasgow/Strathclyde Santa Cruise 2011
Dougs Scoob replied to sti pretender's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Hi Robert. After joining sidc last year I thoroughly enjoyed last years santa cruise to yorkhill knowing it's making a difference to so many kids and meeting new people. I feel Imy's point may be correct about Yorkhill getting "the lion's share of fundrasing" so may be a good idea to try something else but at the same time do you really want to let go the "historic link between us and Yorkhill"? A run to Balloch would be fun! Whatever decision is made I'll turn out again for the meal fundraiser and on the day. Is there also a way of attracting more to this event? I don't know if last years santa cruise was a good turn out or not but felt more could have attended it. The bigger the turn out the bigger the funds for pressies. How about a mass turn out from all scooby clubs unless they all do different things? -
Big thanks to Chrissy at Euro car parts for supplying me the battery at a reduced rate. Much appreciated. Thanks to Scoot Muldoon for suggesting the scoobynet discount code too. It works btw. Thats the new battery fitted tonight and a wee spin to charge it. Well thats the excuse i gave the mrs! Would anyone know if disconnecting the battery would count as an ecu reset? Reason im asking is I've heard folk on other threads talking about the ecu needing reset after running the car on a lower octane fuel. The car felt more responsive tonight than usual after replacing the battery. It could be me though as it is a big difference driving the scoob after driving the company 1.3 astra diesel about every day!

Have a Hawkeye Sti 06 and think its time for a new battery. Found the battery dead last week after it not being started in a few weeks. I charged it and took it on a good run but after monitoring the voltage every day its slipping back down. I can buy a Bosch battery from Euro car parts for £67 but was wondering if anyone knows anywhere cheaper? Dougie

Ok ill give that a try at the weekend. Cheers Baz

Mine has been making the knocking noise when going over bumps for about a year. I tried the temp fix by spraying white grease but it sounded worse after. Is there any way I can check if the drop links are possibly the cause? Maybe movement in them when jacked up? Sorry im bit of a novice.

Thanks very much Vicci and Gerard. (Yeah I hate typing too!!!) I actually got the tyres fitted yesterday by Ace Tyres in Falkirk. If I'd known about yourselves sooner I would've phoned. I'll keep you in mind for next time. Thanks anyway. Dougie

Thanks for all the replies guys. Appreciated. I'll get a quote from GT Autocare and McConnechys before making a decision. Yeah I was wondering if the car would've been too bumpy. We'll soon find out! It's a Newage STi and I currently need to replace 1 front and rear shock but I'm hoping to find someone getting rid of used ones in a decent condition as funds aren't available at the mo for Coilovers.

Has anyone ever used Ace tyres in Falkirk before as I've had a decent quote for new tyres and I've never used them before? Any good or bad experiences - I'd be welcome to hear of. Or perhaps could anyone recommend anywhere else in the surrounding area. Im awaiting quote from Skidz in Falkirk. Thanks in advance. Oh whats folks thoughts on how suitable their Impreza is for a baby on-board? In terms of noise and bumpyness of the ride for getting one to sleep? I've got one on the way!!! - My first!

It gets the tar off. I don't use it that often as I know it's not good for paint but I'll look into getting a clay bar. How quick is it to do?
-
I've never used it before either but have been wondering about it. I've always used the old t-cut then a good wax but thats very time consuming. Is it quicker than using t-cut?

Hi. I run on the RE070's too and think they are great. Just hold the road so well. Pretty much in the same shoes as you as I dont push it much in the wet. Looking for a new set of them now as getting down to minimal tread. Would you mind me asking where you had yours fitted and the cost? Cheers Dougie

I tried the temp WD40 fix but it made it worse. If the strut is knocking, apart from doing your head in whats the worst that can happen if you leave it?

I had my cambelt changed at Greives with the 50,000 service and MOT. Paid £485 for everything including service, mot, labour, new wiper blades so £385 sounds about right. Weather that is good or not I don't know but it's peace of mind that it's done correctly at a subaru dealer with the subaru stamp in the service book.

Was gona say! Very nice. My daily runner is my crappy 4 yr old astra estate company car! Wish I could afford 1 of them instead! How did you rate the Golf for Acceleration, fuel consumption and reliability Wulsey?

Ok. I had a good look this morning. Whether this will make a difference or not I don't know. Was hoping someone would enlighten me. I noticed one of the fans was unplugged.(The fan nearest the coolant expansion tank). Thats the side I saw the steam last week. Also noticed that the rubbber pipe that comes out the top of the coolant tank connects onto a small metal black pipe above the radiator wasnt fully pushed onto it. Its not got a clip to hold it on. Don't know if it's meant to? Thats all I noticed. Took the car out for a spin and left engine running for 10 mins on my return. No steam. No leaks that I can see. Both fans opperating ok. The end tanks on the radiator looked slightly wet at the bottom but that may have been due to wet road conditions. Would the fan being unplugged cause steam? Thanks for any feedback.

Meant to say the timing belt was just changed so may be that a pipe wasnt fitted back correctly or something.

Hi guys. Last weekend after washing the car I noticed the coolant level was low. Topped up and after a 10 min run noticed steam from the radiator somewhere. Going to have a proper look this weekend. Is there anything I should be looking for apart from obvious - pipes, make sure theyre sealed properly, etc? And is there any easy way of finding a leak? Ive got a hawkeye sti spec D. Thanks for any advice.

There is a tesco in Wick and im sure it did stock the momentum. That was the last place we filled up with super. Had to top up a little in LochInver at a Gleaner station to make sure we had enough until we reached Inverness. Gleaner only had 95 Ron which -last May- cost £1.30 p litre so god knows how much it'll be now!!! So after Wick going North thats the last place I know of anyway that you'll get super until your back down that way. Keep yourself topped up as stations are far and few between. It was a great drive on great roads that are quiet with exceptional scenery. Can't wait to get back up there again sometime soon! Amazing!

I was up there last May in the scoob. Round trip from home - (Falkirk) - Dornoch - Thurso - Loch Inver - Inverness - Home via Glencoe. Have to say the roads were fantastic. Great fun! Stayed in a wee b&b in Thurso. Dont know if I could answer any of your questions though but if I can I will.

Best we got was around 750 mark (200 more than last year!). That was until we took up the offer of 12 weeks free insurance with Aviva - £489. Dont have any mods. 26 with 8 years no claims but the mrs on as 1st driver. Was well relieved when i found that quote. The prices are rediculous at the moment tho for ins and petrol but try aviva guys. 12 weeks free ins if your a new customer.
