  1. Can anyone give a suggestion as to the cause of this.... Owned MY01 WRX Bugeye, 70,000 miles with absolutely no problems at all, excellent car. At the moment the car is completely standard other than K&N Panel filter installed about 1 month ago. After reading all the generally positive reviews on Tesco Momentum 99 I decided to give that a go. All good, didn’t notice a huge performance gain if any but I’ll stick with it. While driving last night, about halfway through my second tank of Momentum, all of a sudden my CEL light illuminated, I wasn’t thrashing the car, just pottering along normally. It blinked on and off for about 10 seconds then disappeared. The engine appeared fine, no stutter, misfire, idle problems etc and it ran as normal. I drove for about another 5 miles before leaving the car at home. I’ll see how I get on today. Is this pure co-incidence or could a change of fuel cause the CEL to light? I read in my manual that a flashing CEL might just go away itself and it was probably a problem with an emissions related sensor. I think you need to start worrying more if the light stays on for good. Has anyone else had this problem or could someone suggest the cause of it? Obviously I could plug into and OBD check but I don’t have one of those to hand! Suggestions appreciated. Marc.
  2. Cheers mate, that's exactly what I thought. Never considered the EU import possibility though, good point. As you say, I have not seen the WRX bucket seats before. Yeah, it was a good deal. 67K 2001 plate with one owner, £3500. The Mrs was not amused but I had to make a fairly quick decision otherwise the owner was off to stick it on Ebay - which would probably have sold for more! Now I know it's a standard WRX I can start "speeding" it up... Marc.
  3. That's what I thought, cheers for the comprehensive reply. All makes sense.
  4. Folks, I wonder if anyone can help. I have had my 01 Impreza WRX for about 3 months now and it’s great fun. I am considering modifications/upgrades but I am not completely sure which “variant” of vehicle I have. I know it’s a strange position to be in but when you actually look into it there are lots of slightly different models released, especially around the 2001 time. Here is what I definitely know... Subaru Impreza WRX (Not STi) 2001 51 plate Purchased Nov 2001 Dark Blue Gold 18 inch OZ/Prodrive branded wheels Twin exhaust tailpipe MOMO/Subaru Steering Wheel Different front grille (Not but eye lights) Does anyone know exactly what variant I have? The car had one owner from new and is from a reliable source (friend of a friend – ex company car). I have lots of dealer stuff; all warranty stamps etc. but no actual original 2001 invoice. I do however have a shipping waybill from the freight company who shipped the car into the UK, this seems a bit weird. It could be a direct Jap import but why? It was brought from an approved Subaru Dealer – that I do know. My question is, although it clearly has a Prodrive Pack, it is a full PPP Prodrive Performance Pack or are all the additions purely cosmetic? I have done some research about the PPP and they usually include performance upgrades such as Re-map Exhaust etc. I cannot tell for sure if my car is just standard with fancy bits on or whether it actually has been adjusted engine wise? Can anyone help me? I kinda need to know where I am now in order to plan performance upgrades. I have had the car up on a ramp just to check the exhaust system (which is fine) but since I have nothing to compare it to – I have no idea if it is standard WRX or not. Hopefully the photo link works and one of you resident experts can help me find out exactly what the car is. Opinions welcome – help appreciated. Marc. Photos here
  5. Ok thanks, I would be happy to travel if it's for a decent service. Will pop over.
  6. Thanks, I'm in Langley close to the A4. I'll pop over and have a look and see, I only want someone to replace all the speakers on my 01 WRX - can't be bothered to mess about and do it myself! I also found a company called AI Audio but one directory website said that had ceased trading! Marc.
  7. Hi all, Can anyone recommend a decent car audio fitter for my 01 Impreza WRX? I can’t be ars*d to faff about myself. Looking for someone to replace the crappy standard speakers and eventually the head unit. Ideally in TW/SL postcode areas. Suggestions appreciated. Marc.

  9. Thanks that's helpful. I am intending on a re-map when I can afford it. I didn't know about the 3rd cat though. Interesting how it would still pass an MOT even with only 1 cat functioning... Indeed yes I agree about the brakes and I will do them too. The standard ones have put me in some slightly "dangerous" situtations recently!!! They really are not that good.... Marc.
  10. As part of a planned series of upgrades for my 2001 WRX, I'm planning to start with a upgrade of the exhaust system. I'm happy to go for a complete de-cat all the way through and was looking for some advice/experiences from others. I understand that the engine does benefit from a free-flow exhaust BUT I really want to try and avoid anything which is ridiculously noisy! My car is nice enough as it is and I only interested in performance gains, not bodywork mods! Any ideas/suggestions on how I can increase power without looking like Barry-Bolt-On, the weekend H*lfords boy...? Many thanks. Marc.
  11. Hello, After nearly 10 loving years of my SEAT Ibiza Cupra from new...I came across an offer I couldn't refuse... 51 Plate Impreza WRX, 67,000 miles, one owner ex-company car, FSH - £3500... I have never owned a Japanese car before but having owned it for 3 weeks now I am VERY impressed. Incredibly quick, smooth, revvable boxer engine and great handling etc. I am happy and desperately trying to avoid getting penalty points on my DL!!! Anyway, the car is fine apart from a one minor thing...When driving off from a very cold start (as we tend to keep getting these days) I get quite bad judder from first gear. It's hard to determine exactly where the judder is coming from, I would assume the clutch but I am not 100% sure of that. The judder keeps going until I drop the clutch pedal again and drive off with slightly more revs. This problem doesn't happen every time I pull away just every 5th time or so and the problem completely goes away when the engine/drive train/coolant etc all warm up, which is rather quick I've noticed. Its kind of a judder from just in front of the gear selector, definitely towards the front of the car. Anyway, I was wondering if any of your resident “experts” might have suggestions as to what this problem might be? Apart from a worn clutch that is...I am not sure it is the clutch as it only happens when cold and the car has only done 67,000 miles, not that I have any idea how long WRX Clutches typically last? Any suggestions appreciated. Marc.
