  1. We have extension seatbelts on our aircraft- mostly for infants to be secured to mum or dad, but we regularly give them out to the larger folk... I usually make a trim adjustment for them as well.

Best of luck bringing the subject up, but remember they only have themselves to blame no matter what the excuse, and if it were me, I'd point them at the bus stop rather than damage my car. The extra walk will do them good as well!

    Mark.

  2. Hi, having been a keen sportsbike rider for 11 years, I'm just about to finallyget myhandson an STi scoob this week- no idea really about subarus but plenty about bikes.....

It's easy to be seduced by sports bikes- the looks, sound and image, but for someone looking to start out and build any kind of NCB, an R6 is a bit daft. They are very sharp steering, not particulary stable and rev like a banshee. The riding position will kill your wrists and your mrs may like one, but she'll have other ideas once she's had a go on the back!

There's plenty of dv2 bikes out there that are quick enough yet practical, not boring, and would give you a far better path into riding. Personally you were on the right trail initially, thundercat, cbr600f or even a tidy CBF or Fazer would be ideal. An RR will cut you in two at the crotch as would other full on racebikes.

Me? I have a VFR800 with ABS, heated grips and tall screen- all day practical and smooth yet I can still rag it round the TT course and stay with most of the power rangers.

The other bike's an RC45. Only comes out for special days.

Whatever you choose, ride safely- and warm the tyres before you lean on them!

  3. Is there anything I can do or any additional part that can increase the acceleration and speed. It is too slow

    To be blunt,

Sorry, the Impreza was meant to have a powerful engine and AWD. as a small engined family car it lacks loads compared to a similarly aged Ford Escort or Astra. If you want more power, a better interior, more space or any improvements, sell it and buy a better car. there will always be a few kids who would love yours for it's cheap insurance and looks, so they can put a WRX bodykit on....

As said, insurance on a modified car is silly money, which is better spent on a better car.

  4. Reality check time.

At 17 I was the world's best driver. Insurance was unneccessary as I was too good to have a crash and it simply wasn't fair. I deserved a Ferrari with my talent and couldn't understand why the insurance company (and my dad) didn't agree.....

I'm 40 now. Still just as good mind :)

No seriously, putting a big engine into your Corsa, you are about as likely to wrap yourself around a lamp post or tree and anyone. statistics don't lie. Not only will your insurance company not pay up, but if (and when) you prang yourself, the police will charge you and you will have to start all over in a couple of years, zero no claims, etc, and a criminal record to show for it.

Try getting a quote for your Corsa as it is now, then have a think. Is it really worth that risk? You won't look cool when you are waiting at the bus stop, will you?

The Insurance company's assess risk so they can manage payouts. They have assessed you as a bloody danger not because they don't like you or are unfair, it's just your age is typical of the nutters out there.

Take a hint. If your conversion was a good one, get the most you can for that Corsa as soon as you can, and buy something STANDARD. Drive it about carefully and build no claims. Your No Claims discount is the route to nirvana, not red top engines and 4wd Scooby conversions.

Once you have full protected no Claims, THEN do you have fun. If you've saved funds too, you can buy something properly tasty, afford it and be proud of it.

Cheating and defrauding Insurance companies is not the route you should consider.

I ran a 1.3 Escort, with XR3i bumpers and spoiler to start with, then a 1.4 Escort done up to look like an RS turbo. Insurance was stiff, but the engines were stock and didn't affect my cool and posing ability. The Insurance didn't penalise me for the huge wheels and brakes either.

Now I can have what I want and even a full on Sti is only £350 fully comp, fully protected. Actually and weirdly, a Lambo Gallardo would cost me the same to insure.

  5. Thank you hightower, I'll check that too. Had just opened the boot to try it out and bit and then the heavens opened

    Sometimes on cars it's about being methodical. I haven't got my Scooby yet, so don't know specifics, but you'll need to strip the boot lining and look all around. I've had this on other cars and the usual suspects are always;

    Rear light surrounds,

    Grommets,

    Boot lid edge seal,

    Aerials,

Faulty floor edge sealings or drain plugs missing.

    In that order usually.

    Best of luck.

  6. Don't forget the type UK will run at lower RPM on the motorway so should give you better MPG between twisty bits, or on a long run to visit family, etc.

Can't wait for mine to arrive.

Type UK, STi 03 WR Blue, 36,000miles from new two owners, full history, price included respraying wheels back to original colour and a few paint chips as well, plus fitment of new standard exhaust, a full year's warranty and full service, inc. cam belts. all for £9,500. Mint condition inside and out.

Can't be bad. Drives perfectly on IOM roads too.

  7. Thanks guys.

I only took it for a quick test drive before committing.....I had an SLK before and after selling that I've run a crappy old Vectra for a fw months, but I've had this feeling in the back of my head that I couldn't shake, the need for a really dynamic car that I can grab by teh scruff of the neck and throw along the back roads.

Before the SLK, (don't ask, but it drove beautifully if sedately) I had a Saxo VTS, which nearly did the trick, apart from costing a fortune to put into standard clean condition and always feeling like it was seconds from either blowing up or falling apart.

The Scooby will definitely be an addiction.

I wanted the exhaust standard as I don't like to advertise myself much, well, too much and like music so want a nice stereo to replace that crap standard Subaru thing.

Just a question, I've heard all sorts about the headlights, are they really that bad? Does the STi have the wiring in place for fog lights already? Might get the driving light kit but not sure for now.

    Thanks for the welcome.

I drove down to the airport yesterday and saw 5 imprezas going the other way towards Douglas. a Red classic five door, a 2.5 WRX and a pair of white classic STis split by another red WRX or something like it....was it a meet or just normal? Clearly I'm looking more now I've decided to join you.....

See you about. Look for 146FMN a Blobeye WR blue STi, standard gold wheels and mint condition (hope to keep it that way!)

  8. Hi all! I finally answered the call of nature and bought my first scooby-doo.

I get it next week. 03 blobeye, wr blue. The one on Ocean Ford's ad actually. Drives perfectly, although I'm putting a standard exhaust back on for now- the cheapo back box deafens you inside otherwise.

Why is it the Island is so full of Imprezas? Classics Everywhere. See you about soon.

    Mark.
