About Stonehaven

  1. Iain, Thanks again, more experience with SCs than tubbies and my SC on my 5 has boost from the outset if you put the footdown - bypass only when in vac. I will find a T piece and put the gauge on. Regards, Mark
  2. Iain, I have just been able to take a look. Unfortunately I don't have an extension bar of the right length to get the lower solenoid bolt out and the vac pipes won't move at the angle they are at, so I haven't been able to actually clean the solenoid yet. However, connecting the green connectors only operated the fans, the solenoid didn't click and I couldn't feel any mechanical movement. I then got my nine year old daughter to rev the car to 5k whilst I watched the turbo actuator bar - there was no movement. To me this suggests the solenoid simply isn't working, would you agree? Regards, Mark
  3. If I am buying anew solenoid is this what I am looking for? linky
  4. Thanks, I will give that a go at the weekend and report back on boost.
  5. I have a spare boost gauge somewhere in the garage, where do I connect it on a Scooby?
  6. Iain, it is very flat over 4k, more power low down, hits 4k then seems to be spluttering its way up to 7k, is the solenoid an easy fix?
  7. Thanks for the thought, but I don't think it is my driving style - see other cars below - I am well used to spinning things up rev limiter on RX8 is 9200.
  8. I have had my 2002 WRX wagon now for about three weeks and I am generally pleased with it. In the first week the weather wasn't good enough to really try it out and then I was away, so it is only now that I am finding that the car seems to lack power above 4000rpm, with almost a feeling of a misfire, at lower revs it runs smooth and pulls well. My friendly mechanic is going to be changing the belts and water pump this weekend and servicing the car. Looking at some of the other posts, could it be a problem with the boost control solenoid or the coil packs? I don't mind spending a bit to sort things out, but I don't really want to buy parts I don't need. The car has done 76k and as far as I am aware hasn't had much replaced over the years. Help and advice on best place to order parts appreciated. Thanks, Mark
  9. After years of ignoring Scoobies, much to disgust of colleague who has had six - I suddenly ended up with tow Subarus in two hours, a 06 plate Legacy estate for my wife and a 02 bugeye WRX wagon for myself. I should add I now don't understand why I didn't buy one (or more) before! The WRX needs a belt change and plugs, it seems to have a flat spot around 4k revs - so anything else I should do please let me know. I know MX5s well (had 10), Alfa 156s (had 5) and RX8s but my knowledge of Subarus is limited to what people tell me and what I have read. Please advise the best supplier for bits - need belt and plugs - and do I need to change the belt pulleys? Seems to be mixed advice online on that one. Regards, Mark
