  1. Does my head in too, especially in the lorry on cruise at 56mph - muppets sitting at 55.5mph but the feel offended when I attempt an overtake and then speed up (baw bags).

Boy racers make me chuckle, especially the ones who get tick to by a VXR and think they can take on all!

They should stick to the X-Box as 99% of the time their lack of driving skill shows them up.

Totally agree with the lack of skill thing, so many young ones i know think that it's all to do with the performance of the machine and dont take the time to get used to the power and bring the performance of their driving up to match, hence the reason so many are bumped or written off.

  2. lol obviously that was one of my 'work in progress' pictures. On that note i dont actually think i have any completed engine pictures lol.

And i dont waste my time with the pedal cars anymore, i'm much more mature than that now :).

    Cheers Dave

  3. :wizard: Whats wrong with wee 1.0 corsa drivers???????? :D

    I resemble that remark ;)

Can bee good fun for the ones who do try tho :) And before im chased by an angry mob :icon_salut: I'm not claiming anything here :boldblue:

Oh how i love my Chav Charriot sometimes :banana2:

  4. I've got Falken ZE 912's on the front of my Corsa Redtop and for the money you can get them at they are great on both wet and dry roads. Seem to give alot of better known, dearer tyres a run for their money as well in the tyre test results that i looked at.

  5. Hi peeps i've done a search around the forum and cant find the answer.

What i would like to know is how to work out the ratios to match a gearbox to a diff.

My current situation is i've bought a gearbox and diff to fit to my UK impreza, checked the number on the box to confirm it is indeed from a UK spec 1996 Impreza and i was told the diff i got with it was from the same car.

Stripped the backplate off the diff today to double check what i'd been told and when i divided the number of teeth on the crown wheel (39) by the number on the pinion (11) it came out to 3.545.

Now according to the gearbox chart the final drive on the box (TY752VN4BA) is 4.11 so should this diff not also be a 4.11 ratio to match the box or am i just not understanding and working it all out incorrectly

Would really appreciate if someone could take the time to explain how it's worked out if i've got it wrong.

    Cheers David

  6. Thanks i had looked at the chart and ratios but i had noticed reading a few old posts that there were some changes with the EJ205 engine compaired to the previous engines and wasn't sure if they would cause problems bolting it together, still trying to learn the ins and out of imprezas lol.

It would be good if someone could post up a list of changes and/or compatability issues between the previous engine codes and the EJ205 which i have if it wasn't to much trouble(or indeed point me in the direction of the post if it's been done previously).

    Cheers David

  7. Yes m8 your totally right it's : TY752VN4BA.

I'm not overly worried about it being weaker at the moment tbh as it's a means to an end for me at the time being and as i'm only aiming for standard power figures i didnt see it would cause any problems, it is good to have it pointed out tho for future reference and for anyone else looking for replacement box's cheers.

  8. Ok just taken collection of my new gearbox and diff (new to me). Checked the part number on the box and the guy on ebay had listed the part number totally wrong as i suspected ;).

    The proper number is :6M-TY752VN4BA

Ive checked the charts and found this to be from a : UK/Europe Impreza Turbo 2000 / GT MY96

Just edited to say my origional gearbox number should be : TY754VN1AA

Could someone please confirm that this box will fit my engine (engine number in post 5).

Also how do i now check that the diff will definaitly match the gearbox i.e are there any numbers i can look for and charts i can match them to like the gearbox's?

    Cheers peeps

  9. I think you should focus on the bits that are missing first ohmy.gif

lmao yea i'm getting to that ;)

I was thinking crystal myself shennan, how you doing? You still on the dreaded night shift? Will give you a phone tomorrow at some point as i should be getting my gearbox and diff delivered, i'll text you first to make sure your up.

    David

  10. That would be good mate if you could, i'll pm you a copy of my email address.

The only real issues i need to find out i think are

    A. will it be compatable with my engine, i.e will it all bolt up ok, the engine type as listed on the chassis plate is EJ205NW1KD

    B. Will it handle the power (i will only be running standard engine with a VF turbo (not sure what model but it's just a standard Impreza one to the best of my knowlege), decat exhaust, filter and hopefully a front mount as i dont like the idea of the top mount coolers)

Being that i am getting the gearbox and a matching diff to go with it i dont think there will be any problems that way.

Really just wanting conformation that it is an impreza turbo box and not from for example a sport or something like that.

    Cheers David

  11. fleebay by any chance? I've been having a look about for an Impreza for a wee while now lol, think i've seen most for sale. Would of prefered a wagon myself tbh as it would of been a bit more practical for my daughters quad but beggers cant be choosers and all that.

Nah i was only around half that m8 ;), not to bad for what i got i think, private plate came with it to which would be worth more than i payed for the whole lot. Will see how cheap i can get it all together now lol, so far i've had interior (excluding dash which i still need), bonet and wheels donated for free and managed to get a gearbox and the matching diff from ebay delivered the 220 miles to my door for £89 lol, not going to bad so far :P.

  12. Hi folks, i've bought a gearbox and diff from ebay but i was wondering if any of you could help me identify it, eg see what ratio it is etc.

The part number is : TY752VB3TX

I'm just a bit worried as any of the gearbox charts i've had a look at have not had any boxes listed ending with TX, i'm hoping it's not a sport box or ive been had lol, the guy i got it from says it was a WRX box.

    Help greatly appreciated thanks David.

  13. lol ive rebuilt a Mk 4 Escort estate, then the redtop corsa i've got at the moment and everytime i said never again yet here i am hahaha. I thought it looked like a load of work when i first seen it but the more bits i gather the less of a job it seems to be (just read that back doh sounds like an obvious statement lol), nah the only thing that i'm weary about at the moment is the engine, everything else is just an easy bolt up job.

The engine i was told has head gasket failure so i may as well strip the full lot while it's out and check it. my plan is just to hone the bores and fit the ACL race bearings and some decent rings. Altho i've rebuilt the CVH head and ported and polished it for my old Escort estate, i've never done a bottom end rebuild yet so i'm a bit weary lol, but seen as i'm not the type of guy that gives in and hate to pay someone else to do a job which i dont see i shouldn't be able to do myself armed with the proper knowlege (and help lol) it will be done. I have a friend who's done a few so he's pretty clued up and i will be rebuilding it at his garage so hopefully he'll be there beside me to help me out and point me in the right direction if i get stuck.

What do you guys recon the cars worth as it's sitting at the moment?

  14. Thanks for the warm welcome peeps, much appreciated. I'm from ayrshire (North Ayrshire to be exact).

Ok heres some pictures, not sure if the guy i bought the car from uses this site so if he does hello to him to lol. Have a wee look at the pics and see what you recon i got it for :) (and no before someone says it, it wasnt sexual favours lol).

Car as advertised when i bought it :D

    Picture186.jpg

Got it home (well to a friends garage) and started to give it a quick tidy up inside and try and sort out exactly what i had and what i needed.

    DSC00239.jpg

Some bits n peices that came with it.

    DSC00243.jpg

This is the worst bit of the body work, the rest seems pretty good apart from needing a good wash and polish.

    DSC00260.jpg

    No front bumper/bonet ect

    DSC00265.jpg

    DSC00259.jpg

Bought it with this plate on it as well which i was chuffed with lol (never had or have intended to get a private plate before so a bit of a novalty lol)

Major parts needed are gearbox and diff (which i purchased and sorted delivery of yesterday, another ebay bargain at £89 delivered lol), brakes and dash.

I have an old style WRX interior being donated free and thinking of just fitting a sport bonet (again been offered free) as i intend to fit a front mount cooler as i just dont see the point in the heat soaking topmounts, think the sport bonnet without the vents would be ok in this situation, please feel free to correct me if im wrong.

Will keep you all updated as i buy parts and fit bits, oh forgot to mention it HAS got an engine all be it with head gasket blown but i intend to strip it and check it anyway and fit some acl race bearings (Big ends) and a set of rings along with having the bores honed as the car will be my daily driver eventually so i need/want it to be reliable.

Any feedback and of course guess the price replys invited lol.

    Dave

  15. Just a quick one to say hello to everyone as i've already done the same in the general section but i thought i'd come do it here as well seeing as im from Scotland.

I've just bought my first Scoob after wanting one for years, it needs a bit of work to get it back on the road so i might be on here often to ask stupid questions lol (and yes i'll remember to use the search function first lol :D ).
