About blwrx

  1. decatted exhaust, freeflow panel filter,td05(maybe an uprated fuel pump) and remap should see 320+bhp with 300+ torque no probs, only need to uprate other things if you plan on lots of track days.i have similar power in an old classic on the same turbo(without a remap).
  2. r888s are awesome compared to normal road tyres(even in damp/wet track) but wear at an alarming rate,on a full day at knockhill, expect the front passenger tyre and maybe rear to be illegal by the time you go home from brand new as they only come with 5mm(ish) cut.if these new laws do come into force,it may make r888s and similar affordable haha. i have tried yoko a048s too and were slightly better in the dry but not as good as r888s in the wet.
  3. I've heard fitting new head gaskets on a "tired" engine can lead to bottom end failure due to the better compression(although it might be engine builders trying to get more money haha),might just be the gasket gone again.did you have the head checked to see if it had warped? as I've had a couple of failures within a few days due to not getting the head(s) checked so always get this done now.i had an m3 which started tapping and knocking, told it would be the bottom end and when stripped, turned out to be a head gasket failure.cheers bryan
  4. thanks ra dunk, what turbo would be suited to this sort of power for trackday use?a later sti one?does the triple layer head gasket lower compression also? thanks again bryan
  5. buy an sti or ra why?? if i build a decent motor, why would an sti or ra be so much more suitable(i have an ra box and diff already ,non dccd,if that's the main difference) this is a question also by the way, not an attack on you scoobzie haha.i am 100% going for apexi or similar with bigger turbo and remap, but want to make sure the engine doesn't just last 5 minutes as its had a sore life by the previous owner,so a rebuilt engine in my opinion is a good idea, its just the best way to go about this, whats the best head gaskets, bearings etc to use?.that's good news that the standard wrx heads are up to the job,i also hear that rebuilding with a reground or used crank is bad news on a subaru? thanks for input bryan
  6. hi there,im going to build a decent engine for my 95 wrx,my current engine is 311bhp/276 torque, running fmic, walbro pump, ajustble fpr, full 2 1/2" straight through exhaust(3"turbo down pipe)with stainless steel headers.its going to be mainly for trackdays and not high power, just reliable 350/350.my question is do i really need uprated pistons/rods for this modest power output? or could i get away with a standard rebuilt motor with uprated head gaskets and arp bolts? obviously i would be going down the apexi route with a more suitable turbo.other things i have no idea about are the standard wrx heads, are they ok? or would v2 sti be any better? my budget wont(cant haha) go beyond the £1.5-2k i will be doing the work as much as possible myself too,i know this opens a can of worms in regards to gearboxes ect but i want to focus on a reliable engine first, thanks bryan
  7. my first motor was a red 1987 mg metro, what a bucket of crap!!it was only 5 years old when i got it from kinross motor auctions, spent more money on weekly upkeep than anything else.it felt rapid at the time too pmsl
  8. thanks for the welcome, i'll get some pics of the car when its cleaned a bit lol still needs an mot and im currently trying to source a standard exhaust to get a pass as it has a straight through from the turbo back system, its just an old 95 wrx saloon with a few goodies for the track,i had a 99 turbo about 6 years ago, loved it to bits,in fact it was the only motor Ive sold i was genuinely gutted to part with so when a mate was selling his old wrx,i snapped it up in mind for track days. im a fly fifer so may get along to some meets in the future, cheers again bryan
  9. hi there, just joined the sidc, got an old wrx for a bit of a hobby but mainly trackdays so hopefully get on a few sidc days up at the hill, looking forward to some banter and scoob advice on the forum!! thanks bryan
