  1. Afternoon guys, Just discovered a puddle of petrol under my car... I've got a leak from what I think is the fuel filler pipe (the pipe where the petrol goes into the tank). Where the pipe bends and has a guard attachted is where it's dripping. Anyone know if this is an easy/cheap job? Any help would be great! Cheers
  2. It turns but on the last bit when you push in and turn anticlockwise it just doesn't shift. I did get it out earlier but had to put back in to drive home. Do not wanna snap it off inside the ignition.
  3. Evening, Anyone ever had this happen? Any tips on how to get the bugger out? Cheers
  4. Morning! Latest is - went to see him last Sunday before I headed off to work for the week and he has accepted that there's no valve damage and that he'll repair the entire crankshaft. Told him that I'm happy with that and will call him during the week to find out his progress. Phoned him Wednesday and he said he "had to pass" on when it'll be done by (bit frustrating). Phoned him yesterday, and his wife answered... she told me he was busy and that he'll call me back, then I heard him shout "I'LL RING HIM WHEN IT'S DONE!!" So I'm going to see him in abit to find out where he's at because according to reliable sources the car hasn't moved whilst I've been away plus I'm losing out on insurance money and other things and it's really starting to get up my nose! I would've at least expected a phone call or 2 from him just to tell me the latest but it's me having to do all the chasing up. He's a cowboy pikey c*nt.
  5. Phoned dealer earlier today to tell him that I've had numerous people saying that my car has a non-interference engine, therefore its impossible to have any valve damage. Cowboy still isn't having any of it and wants "to do his own research" into it, as he doesn't know why the car isn't running if there is no valve damage. Problem is I'm away with work for 6 days as of tomorrow and really need this sorted.
  6. Spoke to breaker again at about 5 who confirmed that my engine is non-interference and is posting me it all written up and signed. He used "autodata" to find this out by the way. Next port of call is cowboy to tell him I want my money back including the £30 petrol I stuck in 10 mins before she conked plus the insurance money I have/will be losing out on.
  7. The latest is - just met up with a couple of Subaru breakers who have said that any valve damage is unlikely but will phone them later to confirm after they've looked it up back at their HQ. They did say that he should not have sold the car to me in that condition and he should be willing to repair or give me my money back. Also said he'd put it all in writing if needs be. Cowboy didn't come out of his office at any time. Will report back later.
  8. Hi Iain, Went to see the cowboy during my lunch break with a mate from work who knows his engines. Still happy to pass the blame onto the RAC and happy to go through the courts if needs be. I asked if the RAC were not involved at all, would he accept responsibility for the dodgey welding, he laughed and said no. I was about to lamp him at that point. He also could not be certain of bent vales as he has not even looked, he just assumes. Phoned a Subaru dealer and explained the situation, he said that although an MOT would not have included an inspection of the pulley he said it should not have been sold to me in that condition. I then phoned a local Subaru breaker who is calling me back tonight with regards to him looking at the car with me tomorrow. He said that there's no reason why I should have damaged any valves. Iain, would be great to get a phone number off you if possible to chat about all of this. Cheers
  9. Just got off the phone to Consumer Advice and it doesn't sound too good She said that by law he doesn't have to tell me what's wrong with the vehicle and that the RAC must've thought the car was road worthy if they let me drive home. She also said that if the fault was a common problem with that make of car THEN he would have to either repair it for free or give me a like for like motor. She's e-mailed me various documents to print out and send off to the cowboy.
  10. Hi Iain, The car is currenty at his garage and I'm busy with work with no transport, so I could but it's a matter of getting a chance. Now going to ring the Consumer Advice people.
  11. Really appreciate your replys fellas! I'm based just south of Norwich...
  12. Top bloke, cheers! Would these "bent" valves be visable? I'm phoning consumer advice tomorrow morning then going from there. If they say I have a leg to stand on I'll pursue legal action if he doesn't give me my money back.
  13. Hi Iain, The car was trying to start but not getting anywhere if you get what I mean? The bloke said that once the engine had stopped when I pulled into the carpark and called the RAC, a key would've dropped and then by starting her up again to drive home would've bent valves!? He told me to phone the RAC and then get back to him!! I'm phoning the Citizen's Advice Bureau instead.
  14. Latest is - he's now just confirming that I've done more damage to the car by trying to start it on Monday morning and that it's now the RACs fault for letting me drive home... I should've been towed to his garage. I brought up consumer rights and he just told me that "we can go down the route, if you want". I'm fuming.
  15. Yep there's definetly some dodgey weld in there.
  16. Hi Iain, No pulley to show pics of mate. Must've come off along the straight bit of road before we made a turn and noticed the lack of power streering! Been back along the road but no sign of it. As for the valve damage, he just babbled on about how I would've done it trying to start her yesterday morning. But if that were the case then surely he would've advised against doing that, on the Sunday, after I'd been in to tell him the problem!? Surely he should've just said that he'll come and tow it as trying to drive her in could damage valves!? Now gonna ring them...
  17. Latest is - he says it's either a new engine job or it has to be striped to find and fix problem(s). He also says I could have bent some valves whilst trying to start it yesterday morning... how true this is I don't know. He's trying to worm his way out and is under the impression that it's going to cost ME an arm and a leg. Will report back tonight.
  18. Cheers guys. Latest is - she wouldn't start this morning due to dead battery despite being charged over night... Got a lift down to the garage and told the guy to tow it... was on my tea break earlier and saw him drive past with it on his trailer I'll give him a ring later to see where we are. Thanks again.
  19. Yeah cheers. Worst case scenario - how much am I looking at?
  20. I picked it up on 1st Sept. The car wasn't sold as seen but as in good working order. It also has good service history.
  21. Hi guys, Picked up my Scooby (a 96 non turbo wagon) start of the month from a local dealer, hardly driven it since due to being away with work, took the family out today and lost all power steering... RAC came out and said that "crank pulley belt had gone and damaged end of crankshaft. Will require pulley and crank". Now, I've just spoken to the dealer and I've arranged to take it in tomorrow morning. I can already tell he's trying to worm his way out. Basically where do I stand? The car came with full MOT but no warranty. Please help!
  22. Hi guys, I've got a switch that sits just behind the steering wheel and just infront of the dials and I'm unsure as to what it is/for? The symbol on it is a sqaure inside a square with little lines coming off it, when I press it in an orange strip is shown. Any help?
