  1. I as many know have a 2007 sti ppp, what is the standard compression ratio on the GDF 2.5l units? got my eye on another set of pistons but just noticed that the compression ratio is different at 9.2:1 where as these pistons are also available in 8.2:1 will it matter much about the compression ratio as obviously the car wont be standard and will be getting re-mapped again to suit new set up / engine build in the future. Cheers

  2. Well sold the series mcrae last sunday night well so i thought.......... was suppost to get collected tonight, stuck some fuel in it last night for the new owner as requested and on the short way back from the garage with out any warning........ knock knock knock!! bottom end gone me thinks! Sounding not too hot now!! and the engine noises are louder than the straight thru blitz nur spec!! just my luck the now lol!! if you dont laugh you cry!! really didnt want to sell it anyway but needs must as our first baby aint too far away and i really dont think the mcrae wants to move out the garage either!!! Its trying hard to stay I'll give it that!!

Anyways looking for a replacement engine to drop in now, any help or pointers appreciated to source a decent reliable unit so I can get it back up and running again.

    Cheers John.

  5. Hi mate, when Trackhound was mapping my 2007 hawkeye sti ppp I got Al to also add the pops and bangs in there on my 2.5 and as Badbaz says there are days where it'll be really poppy and others where it'll only pop here and there on lift off. Pretty sure its not just something you can turn off and I know a couple of folk that have had it done and thought it was great until the novelty wore off and the realisation of having it on a daily driver sunk in. Me.... I love it all day long and when it flames it really does flame alright!! Great for annoying the neighbours lol!!!!! would never have it removed from my map. :)

  6. I was just about to say that car looks suspiciously like a series mcrae, just clocked its no.198!! The gold ones for me, but seein as its something special its gotta be a set of gold speedline safari's mate!!

you should get your boot lock surround painted black to match too, I think it makes a big difference..

I also tinted the spoiler brake light so it blends in better

Yup, liked those mods so much.............

    new6018.jpg

Its always the small things that make the big diff, cheers for the pointers mate!!! :)

  8. Car is looking awsome mate, my mcrae had a similar issue in the same place as yours thats now been sorted and well sealed looks like a common problem area with them. Car looks really good lowered, modding a limited edition....naughty naughty who would do such a thing :P always good to see another mcrae!!

  9. Can anyone tell me if this mod is possible? Im looking at removing the red lens for the fog light to even up how the rear of my hawkeye looks. Is this removable easily and can it be reaplaced with a clear reverse light lens from another passenger side unit...........or to save the work can you get a unit already like this on any other model or varient??? Cheers JV

  10. I think a black car looks well when everything is black on it, wheels, windows, grilles like marko said above. Makes for a really stealthy looking car! Think they call it the murdered out look

Here's mine for some ideas mate, if carlsberg made the new stealth bomber...............

    IMG00081-20110430-1546.jpg

still work in progress, black brembo's on horizon for future mods, rear end now de-badged. mine needs lowered a tad too me thinks. Carbon parts do show ok and look quite subtle against the black, ive got carbon door pillar thingy's and rear heat exhaust shield just small touches. was considering perrin wing stiffi's but feel they might detract from my car so unsure but a cool mod none the less. Cheers JV

  11. Excellent news John, was it the Blitz Nur Spec thats on it?

#130 is getting treated to BC Coilovers at the moment!

Sure is mate, what a noise, the car has magnex headers, new up-pipe, bell mouth down pipe blitz nur spec centre and back box............I thought the hawkeye was loud!! coilovers should make a big diff lucky man!!

  12. Alrite folks, Getting closer to getting the mcrae started now after a few issues along the way. Now got to the stage where we have the engine turning but is not fire'in im pretty sure that the timing is out on the motor may have jumped teeth on the belt but just need to check 2 things........

Am I correct in saying the firing order of the plugs is 1,3,2,4

And secondly the cylinders are numbered drivers side front - 1

    drivers side rear - 3

    passenger side front - 2

    passenger side rear - 4

If this is correct shouldnt be a million miles away now from getting her going, but just looking for confirmation from the experts..........

    Cheers John

  13. No 1 is the main power feed that comes from the positive on the battery, No 2 is a spade terminal that comes from the wiring loom directly behind the starter. It usually has a black plastic cover on it.

    Hope this helps

Cheers mate, had to put new spade on it, just waiting on starter now to see if we can get number 61 fired up and running again, happy days!! :) Cheers for your input, John

  14. did u suss it out?

Yes thanks mate, spade had come off the cable and the cable had folded itself back up into the "v" shape the way the loom was folding back on itself so was well out of sight......one of those cases where the answer was looking you in the face all the time!! still waiting on another starter turning up so will hopefully be celebrating a started motor on friday......fingers crossed :)
