About MichaelM

  1. Went today and was dissapointed. I think I will need an STi at least to start with. The WRX just did not do it for me, now obviously I am coming from a huge power Golf but I still expected more. The car drove well but it was missing a few key things for me. Firstly it is a heavy car and needs more power for sure, not saying it was slow, but not fast enough for me, not even close. The brakes were not as I would have liked/hoped. I felt that if you hit them hard you may be in some trouble. I missed 6th gear badly. Very plastic inside, but I expected this and it is not such an issue. Going to look at an STI next week with an open mind.
  2. Thanks for all the help and comments guys. Going to garage tomorrow to have a look at a WRX, just to get a feel for it. The garages really are struggling at the moment it seems. The car is a 2006 WRX, 30,000 miles and they are willing to let it go for 9k. That would leave me plenty to start doing stuff to it. Still totally open minded but need to start somewhere with my viewings I feel. The one concern I have is safety as I have a young family. I feel that a modern model will be safer for us all, but maybe that is not accurate? They would not be in the car that much as generally the other car in the house is used more, and it is a sensible/ boring car but none the less I still want safety for when they are in it. Does this seem like a really good price to anyone else?
  3. I had these on my golf, was very happy with them. They are not great in the wet, but I found them to be way better in the wet than the Toyo's that I replaced with them. Is all about personal choice but for me I would have put them on my new car no problem and they would be my first choice. I do not do a big mileage so soft tyres do not have as much of an effect for me as I will never go through tyres that fast.
  4. Thanks for the comments guys. I guess all people have a different opinion as to what " big modifications" are. My last car, just sold it on, was a Golf R32 , I had a silly amount of work done to it and in short it was supercharged and had around 500bhp. Was a superb car but I could do no more to it and needed a fresh challenge. Added to that the fact that I have always wanted a Subaru makes the time right for me. I am lucky enough to have a good job and plenty of money to spend but that does not mean that I am foolish with it, I always think long and hard before getting anything. I have a friend who has a mint , totally standard P1 with 8,000 miles on the clock. He will not sell it to me no matter how much money I offer, sadly he is well off and money has no effect on him. I have tried but he is not for selling it EVER!! He only drives it about once a month at the most, bit of a waste if you ask me. I plan on spending the weekend doing some research on the different models. I am a bit cautious about buying an older car unless it has loads of history and has been looked after. I guess there must be a few out there which have been well looked after so it may be a matter of waiting on the right one to come up?? Thanks again Michael.
  5. I think I need to do some decent research, appreciate all the comments and help. Can I ask what does the PPP give you, is it basically just a remap and if so is it worth it?
  6. Now that I see it like that , No I dont!! Have to admit that I am not sure of all the different models and years, I new that the 1st picture was the model i thought it was but was unsure what the previous model was!!
  7. Is silver mate, but an 06 model so looks to be the new shape from what I can see.
  8. I have more money to spend if needed but do not want to spend it if I do not need to. Another dealer has a 55 plate STI ppp for £12.500, is that a way better car for 2k more? Michael.
  9. Hi all. New here so please go gentle!! I am in the market for an Impreza as I have always wanted one and they are now more affordable than ever. I have always been into modifyig my cars heavily and so am looking to get a pretty standard WRX and then do my own thing to it. I have a few questions that hopefully someone can help with. I am looking at a 2007 WRX , dealer has reduced the car a fair amount and it can now be mine for £10,500, which I feel is a fair price, 30k on the clock. I am unsure whether I should go for a WRX or should I get a STI and if so why?? I am trying to price the things I would do straight away and they are as follows. Fit a decent exhaust. Get the car tuned/ ecu flashed. Get a decent rear spoiler. All help and comments welcome. Thanks Michael.
