  1. Thanks Big D!! I am posting the link to the thread you have done on the Oxon scooby forum for this so..... if anyone has any ideas how to help Big D fill some scoobys boots with beer for the boys then please visit http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=141257 and give him your ideas!! Thanks Karen
  2. Hope it is ok to post this here. Please take a look, our lads and lasses out there in Afganistan deserve our support and this is just one small way of showing it. http://www.216squadron.com/ There is also a facebook group http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?ref=na...id=136961902125 for those of you on facebook. Taken from the website - "Beer for the Boys" is the brainchild of Wing Commander Steve Chadwick, Officer Commanding 216 Squadron based at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire. He started the campaign in 2007 with the aim of providing a can of beer to servicemen and women flying home from Afghanistan on RAF TriStar aircraft, which are operated by 216 Squadron. Alcohol is not available to British troops whilst serving in Afghanistan, making the experience of a cold thirst-quencher on the flight home all the more special....." "The principle is that a single can of cold beer thrust into the hand of a soldier once the TriStar is safely away from the ground and out of harm's way marks the point at which he knows he is going home after six months of fighting. It is just a token, but an important one."

  10. Apparently they have run out of grit My 21 yr old son has a P reg escort and because he knows how to drive in the snow has managed to make it into work every day this week, even though the roads have been treacherous and other cars have been getting stuck, but as he says, people just don't know how to drive in the snow Yesterday the only vheicles he saw out on the main A road past our village were farmers with their JCB's trying to keep the road open, no council vehicles in sight. It is bad really
  11. Thanks ever so much guys, but we are ok because Winnie has got an L200 Mitsubishi Animal which can get through the snow which normal cars can't. He had to use his chain saw yesterday to clear the road from fallen trees so he could get down to work He was ferrying people about yesterday up and down the hill to the village, good hearted soul that he is It is quite a nice atmosphere in the village, everyone out enjoying the snow, lots of people going for walks and speaking to each other, shame it isn't like it all the time, everyone is usually tucked away inside or at work
  12. Hi Imy, the reports of the snow down south are not exaggerated where we live in glos. We have had no gritting here for 2 days, so roads virtually impassable. OH went to work at 7am this morning, road was blocked, trees were down, he had to get his chainsaw to get the tree cleared off the road so people could get through. When he got to work, there were even penguins in the snow ... He does work at a bird park! We have had about 18 inches of snow, pic of the scooby in the garden... and our pup in the garden before the majority of the snow fell today Karen
  13. Hi guys, roads are virtually impassable near us as well, we got roughly 18 inches of snow Wasn't going to be able to make it on sunday anyway, but definitely won't be going anywhere in the scooby for a while

  16. Looks like a great turnout guys - Sorry we couldn't make this one. As to suggestions for next month, bowling would be good, curry night sounds great, ice skating not so good for winnie with his hip unless we want an ambulance on standby!! But we are up for anything guys, if everyone wants to go iceskating that's fine, we can watch and laugh and take photos of you lot falling on your bums !!
  17. Me and Winnie went to the show, but have to say it didn't have the same atmosphere as other years, the live show at 9.30 only seemed to be half full. One of the high points was bumping into Imy and Grant who we had never met before but recognised from the McRae Gathering and being able to thank them personally. Hope we didn't embarass you too much guys, forgot to say we were members of sidc
  18. I don't bl**dy believe it, we can't make this one either as we have tickets for the autoshow on the sunday! Never mind, maybe we will make February so long it's not at the beginning of the month as Winnie's in Ireland for the wrc. Anyway, Happy new year to everyone, hope you all had a good one, we have just got over having the flu I had normal flu, winnie had man flu See you all soon Winnie and Karen

  23. Mark, so sad to read this, having lost both my mum and my first husband to cancer I know how devastating it is. Your dad will live on in your heart and your memories and this will bring you comfort in time. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
