About RS-Ross

  1. thanks for all the replies fellas, some really interesting stuff to think about. Can't wait till i begin my search for a scooby ( in a couple of weeks when im back from holiday) , but i know now what i'm ideally looking for - a uk spec 99/00 classic with mileage around 40,000 - 60,000 , hopefully with some minor mods (exhaust, sports/decat, filter, remap) and full service history. Like i said im gonna have around £6000 to play with maximum so i want to get a decent example that gonna give me a lot of smiles!
  2. is there anyway to check the condition of a maf sensor or an icv on an impreza? From what iv read and seen, id prefer to get a 99/00 impreza, but having owned an escort rs turbo for a couple of years, dont wanna get another car that has niggly problems. Id hate to get a car and withing 3000 miles fork out 340 quid on a couple of bits just to keep the car running!
  3. Cheers guys. So what things are likely to f**k the maf sensors on the 99/00s...? induction kits... anything else? What about dumpvalves, cos lots of the classics iv seen have dumpvalves on.
  4. thanks pal, that was exactly what i was looking for...an opinion from somebody who has both! Well ive got about £6000 to spend so I really wanna get a nice example with moderate milage and maybe a few sensible mods, like exhaust, filter, chip.
  5. lol sorry should have looked at ur sig, it was all in there!
  6. yeah it would be good if i could get some opinions from other owners who drive the different imprezas. That sounds like you got a decent example mate, is yours standard or have you modded it? Have you had any issues with the MAF sensor?
  7. yup the only classic models i would get are the 99 or 00 Its just a hard decision between the early new age cars and the late classics. If im honest i prefer the way the later classics look, but id rather get a new age if its gonna be less prone to problems, easier to tune for more horses etc. Are the new age cars that much slower than the classics? 70kg weight difference isnt it, does seem like a lot (just like having an extra passenger on board!)
  8. Sadly I am only looking at uk spec imprezas as Im too young to even be insured on the imports!!! Yeah Iv heard a lot of people mention the MAF sensor issues with the later classics. Does this basically mean that modifying them has to be done differently..ie. cant go the usual route with turbo cars...exhaust and filter...chip...etc etc?? Would you fellas say that the newage imprezas are less prone to problems than the classics? Lots of people have mentioned the newage cars having a slower 0-60...is there much difference in the power/torque figures?? What about weight of the newage cars?
  9. Cheers for that mate, so the later classics (99/00) had slightly more power than the earlier ones, ? Any known problems with the later classics? Well, like i said im debating between getting one of the later classics, or an early new age (either 01/02). Is there anywhere i can find information about the new age imprezas?
  10. thanks mate, had a look in scoobypedia but the classic section doesnt seem to work??? Im basically debating about what impreza to get, with there being good and bad points about the different aged ones. Am i right in thinking those made before 2001 are classed as classics and those after are new age?
  11. Hey, can someone give me a link or point me in the right direction of how I can find out the difference between different aged imprezas please??? I'm mainly interested in the differences in performance, but also what they are like to drive, common faults etc etc. It's to help me decide which one to go for, so any help would be much appreciated
  12. What sort of power are u producing with those mods? 22mpg dont sound too bad, cos like u say u boot it around country lanes and having a laugh
  13. Cheers for all the replies guys! Justin just use this thread to ask ur questions aswell if ya like, cos im sure ill be interested in the answers aswell Subarufus - If you dont mind me asking how much did u pay for the service at Special Scoobies? Lol its good to know that mpg aint that bad, especially with the way things are going with fuel prices
  14. Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I joined as I wanted to find out some more information about the car, so i have a few questions... 1) I've got my eye on a couple of 01/02 plate wrx's... what sort of miles per gallon can I expect to get on average? 2) I live in essex, where's the best place to get the car serviced, and how much do they usually charge? 3) How reliable is an impreza? Lots of people say it's really reliable, but I'd rather hear it from people who actually own and drive the car!! 4) How much do you pay for road tax per year? Hope you can help, Cheers Ross
