I've had what sounds like a similar problem twice with two different cars, an import wrx and an import sti RA. Both needed new coil packs and spark plugs

Cheers guys, I had my eye on the avc-r that AWD in perth were selling a few months ago, it was just over £200, now it's jumped to over £500 ! I should have just bought it when i seen it, another couple of months and they'll be costing over £1000 :-) I'm gonna just pay the extra and go for the avc-r, it seems to be getting the best opinions all round

Hi all, I'm looking to get myself a boost controller, as I'm going to be fitting a td05 20g to my 96 RA. But I cant decide what one to go for. So far I've looked at the following:- Apexi AVC-r - HKS EVC 5 - BLITZ SBC i-D III - Greddy Profec B spec 2 I was dead set on the AVC-r but the prices have rocketed up, so I've started considering these other ones, anyone had any experience with them ?

Hi all, Nearly finished modding my 96 sti RA Vltd, for a bit of knockhill action. So far the mods are:- HKS front mount Full System exhaust including decat downpipe and up pipe Fuel pressure regulator bosch fuel pump 550 cc injectors apexi cone filter apexi power fc with Andy Forrest remap exedy clutch lightened flywheel Brembo’s front and back KYB shocks I said to myself, when I got this all done that would be me happy, as I don’t want to blow the engine up, but I’ve got the bug and need even more power! So I’m thinking on a turbo upgrade, either getting my current one reconditioned or a new one. So I was wondering if anyone had upgraded their turbo recently and what you would recommend? Also is there any other engine upgrades that would be necessary before fitting a new turbo, I’ve heard the headers might need done? Cheers

Hi mate, did you get my message about the top mount?
-
Hi Mate, I've just had the same problem as yourself, I've got a 96 sti RA with the phase 1 engine (slanty intercooler), I didn't want to go for the fmic due to stories about pressure drop etc so went and bought a 98 v4 sti top mount, which I was told would be a nightmare to fit, but I thought fek it, I'm sure it will wrong, absolutely no chance, unless I started cutting chunks out the bulkhead! So I've now bit the bullet and bought a second hand HKS fmic, and it's getting fitted on monday Not what I wanted, but with the phase 1 engine there's not really much choice
-
Hi all, Just got myself a nice second hand HKS fmic, which will be going on next week. sadly though, It didn't come with the fitting manual, so the pipes look a bit like something from the krypton factor at the moment! So I was hoping someone might know if there available online anywhere? cheers

hi all, I'm thinking of removing my current apexi ecu and replacing it with a 7K ecu and getting it remaped I've got the 7k (which is a 95 5th injector version) ready to plug in and try out, but I'm not sure whether my car has the fifth injector or not, so dont want to plug it in just in case it's not the right one My car is a 96 sti RA Vltd with the phase 1 engine can anyone help? Also is there any limitations in the 7K in comparison to the apexi unit? cheers

just noticed a new problem which I didn't even see until now because of the fitting of the carbon fibre bonnet, the under tray has been off and sitting in the back seat of the car, so I just had a quick go at putting it back on, only to find all the bolts are in the wrong position, and the scoop sits no where near the intercooler great!
-
cheers for the advice guys, been on scoobynet and found some usefull stuff, and cheers kenny for the in depth response, very much appreciated Think I'm gonna try a v4 intercooler using the big hammer! and I'm gonna look into getting a bigger scoop, as I've already got a carbon fibre bonnet, and the scoop can be unscrewed and replaced

sorry meant to write 550cc injectors, doh can anyone tell what their experience of fitting a front mount has been, just I'd heard you loose a lot of torque futher down the rev range?

hi all, eventually swapped my wrx for a an 96 sti RA v limited, and enjoying it very much the cars already been mapped by andy forrest, and I'm now doing my engine upgrades before taking it back up to have them mapped in as well the car already has an exedy clutch, lightened fly wheel, full decat exhaust system, up rated panel filter, up rated fuel pump, and forge dump valve the mods still to come are decat up pipe, fuel pressure regulator, 550cc pistons, and a bigger intercooler it's the intercooler thats got me stuck though first of all, I'm wanting to go for the bigger top mount intercooler, as I've heard mixed reports about the front ones? So I'm looking at a version 7 or above sti intercooler, which I've heard are bigger. problem is the fitting I have the earlier version of the 96 sti with the intercooler that sits at an angle, and I've heard it's harder to modify a newer one to fit plus I'm planning on taking the car up to knockhill, so I dont want to remove the strut bar So what my question is what is the best intercooler upgrade for a 96 sti RA? any help will be much appreciated cheers
-
cheers mate I'll give him a shout

looking for a bit of help, I bought a rear cusco strut brace from ebay, but when it arrived it didn't have the fixing plates, it's just the bar, great! due to the way he worded the add, I cant send it back so I'm stuck with it; so I was wondering if anyone knew somewhere I could get the fixing plates from? any help will be much appreciated cheers guys

Hi all, decided to just hold onto my wrx after considering swapping it for the RA, just couldn't be bothered with the hassle of the selling process, so I decided to continue with my upgrading. I was going to go for rear brembo 2 pots, but thought better of it with the added cost of the fitting kit, so bought a pair of rear two pot sti calipers from good old ebay I was told that they would be a direct replacement, for my 95 wrx import which currently has the rubbish 1 pots, all i needed was new discs. but now someone else has told me this might not be the case, bloody typical is there anyone who has done this mod themselves or know someone that has, and could you let me know if there was any problems involved? cheers
-
well looks like the jury is out on this one, I was kind of hoping that you would convice me that I'd be better keeping the WRX, so as to save me the bother of selling it! but u's are right, it'll be worth it in the long run cheers for the help guys p.s anyone got an idea how much I should be looking for my WRX, I was kind of thinking £3500 there abouts?

Hi all, I’m in a bit of a dilemma, and thought you might be able to help me make my mind up I’ve currently got a 95WRX import, which I bought a year ago from my mate, and since then I’ve spent nearly 2k on getting the engine up to scratch. This includes changing the timing belt, ECU, Co2 sensor, a full system exhaust up pipe and down pipe included, up rated intercooler, fuel pressure regulator. So the things pulling really well now I’m preparing it for track days at knockhill, so the next thing I’m looking at is AP callipers, up rated suspension, and a remap. But I’ve hit a bit of a problem, in the form of an RA, which a friend of mine is thinking about selling. I cant decided whether to continue with the WRX project or sell it and get the RA? It’s a 96 sti RA, with an Andy Forrest remap, adjustable suspension, apexi control unit, full system exhaust, brembo front callipers, 18” prodrive alloys (I think), carbon fibre bonnet. Basically track ready My main concerns with the swap are:- The gearing, as I stay in Kilmarnock, it might be a bit of a nightmare driving the RA all the way to Knockhill Will the top speed of the RA be high enough for the long straight Is it worth selling the WRX after spending all that dosh to get the engine mechanically sound Any input will be greatly appreciated, as I’m really struggling to make my mind up? Cheers

Hi all, Finally got some money together to spend on a brake upgrade been looking at AP 6 pots with 335mm discs, but also looking at the K-sport kit I'm going to be using the car for track days, so want something thats up to the job, without getting ridiculous cash wise of course! and they need to run with 17" wheels I know the AP's are fine for the track, but has anyone tried the K-sport kit? also does anyone know if the group buy is still available for them? also is anyone selling some second hand calliper kit, would consider other makes? cheers guys
-
Cheers guys, thanks for all the advice Think I’ll definitely go for the brembo’s. Had a look at some of the suggested kit, all looks very good, and is something I could maybe think about next year, but currently way out of the budget :-( Does anyone know any good suppliers of second hand brembo’s? Cheers

Hi all, looking for some advice I’ve been getting work done to my 95 wrx that I’ve had for the last six months, mostly mechanical stuff, making sure the engines sound. Planning on using it for some track days at knockhill, so I think the next step is upgrading the brakes. I’ve been looking at sti 4 pot callipers, and brembo’s. Thinking I may save money with the sti 4 pots, but also thinking the Brembo’s might be worth splashin the extra dosh Can anyone give me an idea, how much of a difference there is between these brakes on track days?
