About 5haky

  1. Cheers, I sent off to Keith Michaels, waiting for the response now. I'm 26 in May and was only looking to buy in a couple of months as I am looking for a house to buy at the moment so was going to get one after getting a house, maybe I should wait until May then try. I don't understand how you read on some forums about lads being younger than me, with 1 years NCB getting insurance for around £1000 a year on an Impreza! I can't insure a shopping trolley for that.
  2. Forgot to add, 10000 miles a year travel, social and commuting. Fully comp.
  3. Hi, I have wanted an Impreza for awhile but haven't been able to afford one properly (fuel, service etc), now I can.. well I thought I could... I have been getting insurance quotes and the cheapest I have got is £2500 from some company called '4 young drivers'. I've only used the three main comparison websites - confused, compare the market and money supermarket. My situation is: Living in Wigan/Northwest. I have gated private parking but its in the town centre so I don't think the location helps. I'm 25 and have been driving 6 years with 3 years NCB. Last Christmas I had a low speed (under 15 mph) crash in the snow, I literally moved up to the car in front, pressed the brakes in what I thought was good time, lost traction and skidded into the guy. My £1250 Clio was written off despite it only pushing the bonnet in and his 1980's Rover was also written off with the rear bumper pushed in but the car was probably worth 500 quid. Other than that I have no other incidents. The car is a 2001 impreza WRX totally standard worth £5000. I expected above a grand for insurance but I am shocked at over 2grand. Do you guys think I could somehow get cheaper? Can you recommend anywhere? Or do I just have to reside myself to a BMW325 (which is considerably cheaper to insure). Cheers in advance.
  4. Thanks for the replies guys, good information and the replies have given me a good idea about the club. Nice to see the forums welcoming to newbies, and has a good community, i'm going to save up a bit more and try and get something with lowish milege I think. I'll be around the forums while i'm looking for a car, looks like a nice place, and hopefully i'll have a impreza soon and come down to some regional meets. Thanks again
  5. I guess it depends how you drive, most of my driving will be 3-4 miles from my house to the motorwat, then 14miles up the motorwat to work, my work is literally straight off the motorway. I live literaly in the centre of town (wigan) so I don't drive to town much, so i guess my mpg wouldn't be so bad. Forum seems quite active, is there a good community? Many regional meets? Or santa pod trips?
  6. Loud pedal lol, I think i'll find it hard not to hit that one for the first month or so... i'd probably be addicted to that flat four sound lol. When I'm on the motorway I try to keep up with scoobies just because that sound is nothing short of HOT! 156,000! That gives me confidence that a well looked after one should give me quite a few years of driving, I'll buy you a pint at 200k I have got an insurance quote, i'm 22 with 4 years no claims, i'm quite a carefull driver tbh and so far haven't had a bump (touch wood). Insurance still quotes around a grand, but I can afford that, plus I know it'l be worth it. I respect on a performance car and a jap car that the servicing and parts could be quite costly but as long as they're not like alpha romeos... nice to look at, fast... but expensive and unreliable then i'll be happy... and relatively piss take free at work. My only concerns are finding the right one second hand, and fuel consumption, i'm a nuclear engineer, so I had it hammered into me that servicing and maintenance are the most important and expensive things for anything mechanical, so think i've prepared my wallet for a possible beating... but I don't know how big a beating Cheers for the quick replies, some good info
  7. Hi, I'm Rick, been looking for information about imprezas for awhile and been scawling forums, found this one to be the only one worth signing up to tbh. I don't own an impreza, but i've loved the older models for as long as I can remember.. but was always a student so couldn't afford one lol. In a place were I could get one now but was just wondering a few things, I want a 1998/9 one, as I like the facelift, I want a turbo, preferably a saloon but after seeing the thread on wagons.. they're VERY tempting. Things i'm wondering are realisticly, how are they to buy second hand? I'm not sure if they'l have had the a*** ragged off them, or because they were not exactly cheap brand new could they be well looked after, I know it'l vary on owner, but experience wise whats the general concensus on here? How realiable are they? I've read they're pretty bulletproof as with most jap cars? I currently drive a 1.4 8v polo.. yes... i did say EIGHT valves... I'd be lieing if I said its slow.. i'd be lieing if i said its very slow, its somewhere between stopped and reverse. I use the motorways everyday, so thats my excuse for a scooby to the missus.. more power to get out of hairy situations.... lol. Are scoobys shocking on fuel economy? The figures say 28mpg, but generaly speaking, these figures are not true for most cars. Last question is whats the price range of 1998/9 cars, there seems to be a very large range of prices out there, not sure what would be the right price? I'd be looking for completly standard. Any responces are appreciated, Cheers.
