hi guys and girls, just got back into sccoby ownership by pure 'chance', i sold my sti type r about 18months ago and really have regreted it ever since, it was a minter with less then 30k on the clock anyway, recently the wife was looking for a cheap mk3 golf, and while searching ebay i came across a turbo 2000 for very little money, long story/argument cut short, she got her golf, and i got another impreza, now i know coming from an sti type r that the uk car wont feel as raw, but in the past ive had a few wrx's and as few sti's, all classics, but the uk turbo 2000 felt so flat. anyway after soem investigation i discovered that the turbo to intercooler hose had gone very hard and was not sealing properly on the intercooler side, a new pipe cured alot of problems but its still so slow comapred to what i remember, im not slating the uk classix here, i suppose i was expecting more thats all. it also became apparent that the car wasnt that loved by the previous owner, it desperatly needed plugs, and a fulll service, semmes to be runnign properly since The car is a my1999 turbo 2000 it is standard appart from a cone filter, bailey dump valve, and sti backbox. all on the car when bought. is the ecu on this year remmapable? what would be the best way to go about realeasing a few more horses to play with on the lanes here in west wales?? none of this detracts from the grin ive now got on my face again, even if underpowered a bit it still grips like an impreza and im happy to see the other owners still do the 'wave' thanks tim

Hi I dont know if you can remove an abs system from an newage, you can on a classic As for mot, its the same as most things, if the system or any part of the system is there, then it is testable and therefore failable. The way mot testers test the abs system is wholy dependant on the dash warning light. l if that goes on and goes off when u start car then its all ok/ i had an abs classic, which was usless on the back lanes round here, many of which have a layer of loose chippings or farm muck on them, get a abs car on those surfaces and it just doesnt want to brake. even worse on gravel pedal goes hard and does nothing. if you remove the entire abs system ( abs rings, sensors, leads, abs pump and warning light) then you wont fail an mot (back to the if its no tthere you cant fail on it)(ie i had a broken aftermarket foglight an a mk2 escort, failed cos it wasnt working, tester said go round courner, pull it off and come back, if there isnt one there it cant be broken). im gussing all years of impreza are availble for purchase without abs. like the type ra, sti type r's and newer cars bought for rallying, wouldnt come with abs it really is useless on loose surfaces and a good driver will always be able to measure his brakes better than a car with abs. none of the above acounts for the 'oh ****' braking moments, i mean when someone opens a door in your path, pulls out from a blind junction or worse still a kid runs out between parked cars, on wet day, when your sneezing/changing the radio/lighting a fag/ arguing with the misses and you see it at the last second, 99% people will just push the brake pedal through the floor. this is where abs counts. so i dont really know what my point is, i guess, if you live in the middle of the country side, and are confident in your ability. go for it, you'll have more fun. if you do alot of town driving, or and confident you can remove and replace bits of the braking system yourself then dont .

This is definatly a good idea. i thought the same about the type r after about 6 months. then used a 306 dturbo for a fortnight and when i jumped back in the type r it was like oh jesus its still fine haha or get someone else to drive it with u in the passeneger seat, that is the worst thing ive ever done, god it seems to pull so much harder when your not in charge tim

Its all bolt on. remove sidelght and head light and bumper. remove side repeater. remove skirt. undo all the bolts and swap. its a quick job.

dont be!! i was only having a giggle welcome and hope u sort it. the speedo cable is on the side of the gearbox, it just pushes in, on my old wrx it worked loose a few time somehow. caused cel and fuel cut.

to the offside of the gearbox is the speado cable a i guess want myabe find to in plug????? are you not from the uk? youre post seemed very eurospeak

after reading through this again in the cold light of day. im now convinced that the1 is just someone with a grudge or a big chip on their shoulder. he/she shown no proof that they do indeed work for a 'specailist' nor i doubt he/she ever will/ anyway, can i say again thanks to bigd, and the others like him who are prepared to offer their help and support to other members in the sidc for little or often no reward. I hope we get many more members like you. and many less like the1.

I work for myself, in fact I employ 5 people, if one of them had an attitude like you they wouldn't last 5 minutes and another thing you just cant understand. your wrong, all the time. You have no tact and even less civility.
