About andykaz

  1. Thanks for your reply. I would indeed need a powerfc like you say (as i have heard no developments on the new board that is being worked on for that year of car). So a big improvement then? Very tempted to keep my car and go this route tbh (along with some handling and brake mods).
  2. Hi all. Although my car is up for sale, i am seriously starting to think about keeping it and modifiying it to get the performance i want. My car is a 97 "R" car, and i was thinking about carrying out the full decat and remapping for around 265bhp (is that right?) How different will it feel? I had a 270bhp S14 200sx, and it felt considerably faster than my scoob. I am not sure however if the imprezas 4wd system will sap a lot of the gains i see and result in less bang for my buck (i would have to go the power fc and remap route due to my cars year). Am i also right in thinking i should uprate the panel filter at the same time? I seem to find a lot of conflicting opinions on whether to keep the standard one fitted or not. Also (!), what would be the next logical step from there (maybe in a years time). Is that when i am looking at a bigger turbo (i am talking about around 320bhp, would not want to push further than that). Obviously i could (and must) get the car remapped again, but what other things are needed for this spec (the 320 one), fuel pump, injectors, FMIC, colder plugs, anything else? Help would be appreciated, as if i know where i am with mods to the scoob i think i will keep her
  3. Cheers for the replys. As usuall, im none the wiser on what to do! I dont have ramps however, so i guess i will be going to a garage...
  4. Thanks for the advice so far guys. So the gaskets cant be reused then.... Maybe i will try my locar trusted garage rather than a tyre / exhaust place? Do you guys leave fitting insruciotns with the piece, or would that be considered patronising?
  5. As per title really. I am receiving a sports cat downpipe for my UK classic soon, and was wondering whether i shjould attempt fitting it myself (and contend with 10 year old bolts subjected to exhaust gasses), or should i just take it to someone with all the kit to contend with it. If the latter, would you trust an exhaust centre to do the job (doesnt the IC have to be removed?) Or is it more in the realm of a specialist (or at least "proper" garage). Finally, should i source a rpelacement gasket, or can i reuse the existing (or would an instant gasket type sealant be sufficient)? Hope you can help, been considering this one for a while. Andy
  6. Cheers, i did google it after i posted that. I assume you need to register to see any topics? Either that or it its REAL quiet over there
  7. There is a Hampshire Subaru website? Cheers mate!
  8. I do actually have a local garage i trust, maybe i will just use them, they have always been good to me in the past! Cheers.
  9. Hi all I really should get the rocker gasket done on my UK classic, as the ticking and small whisps of smoke on cool down is really starting to annoy me! I really dont fancy doing it myself (so very little room), and was wondering if anyone knows any independant specialists that they would recommend near Salisbury? Thanks! Andy
  10. Thanks for replying. Over the past 2 hours or so i have done tons of trawling, and have managed to find somebody selling a pair of rear std shocks (almost new) with springs and top mounts for a reasonable price.... now i will have to fit the damn things! I cam back to this site to post an update and spotted the reply. You have done a lot to confirm my suspicions about it being an STI shocker, so your time was not wasted Cheers again
  11. So after owning my scoob for about 7 months (UK turbo My97), i have noticed that the O/S rear shock is a pink/orange colour, whilst the other 3 are black.... Great. I'm assuming that this one shock has been changed at some point - possibly for an STI one? i have no idea whay spring has been paired to it, all 4 of them are black, and i can see no identification on it. I have noticed some suprising oversteer in the past, i'm starting to think this may be what causing it. This shock also clonks a bit (i was not sure if it was this or the drop links, but now i think the shock is the likely candidate). So, unless someone here can confirm that a standard replacement shock was available in this colour, i'm intrested in my options, as i can't imagaine its safe to have this set up... So, what are my options for "new" shocks and springs? I really cant afford a brand new set, so was wondering what is a good set up to buy second hand that provides a comfortable ride? I am assuming the other 3 shocks are all standard, and am very happy with the damping they provide on the crappy b roads around here! Would getting a second hand pair of shocks/springs from a uk scoob be ok, or should i just go for a complete replacement set (as i cant be 100% sure of what is on there)? What other shock/spring sets fit from other scoobs? What would people recommend? Sorry for all the questions, but i have no idea about what options are available to me. I will be performing some searches now, but something to get me started would be really appreciated. Prices i should expect to pay would also be handy Thanks guys, hope you can help me as i dont know where to start on this one!
  12. Dont you need to fit another air bag equipped wheel though (for insurance). And i never know about indicator cancelation, horn, boss etc.
  13. Surly not with the costs of getting a dealer to remove, reinstall (due to airbag)? Thanks
  14. Odd, with that exception it sounds 100% like the mounting the solenoid is (erm) mounted to has gone hard. It would not do it on idle, but, as you stated, SHOULD do it when stationary. Sorry, thats no help at all...
