About swirlydave

  1. Wow some great info there cheers Brian. Yeah seem to have gathered a few insurance companies numbers who seem to be the best but i'll wait till nearer the time before ringing them. Suppose your right about the older models as, like honda, being japanese they keep on going. Suppose i'll have to take a look at some, there enough subaru's around where i live and work. Funny i'm slightly put off by older models but i love my mates Capri and that's older than me i think. OK i'm going to ask another stupid question now as you all seem to be tolerant people and are putting up with me so far. The other cars i've seriously considered are Civic type r 03-06 model, being the next step up from my current car, JDM DC2 Integra type R depending on what quotes for insurance I get. Now I know the answers i get are going to very biased coming from a subaru forum but how would these compare to say an RB5 or 215bhp wrx? pro's and cons. I've never driven an awd car before either.
  2. Lol yeah i know i want to, my mate used to have one of the uk300 specs, nice bit of kit and very quick, i didn't like the bug eye bits though. Is 2k honestly what i'm looking at? Are all of them insurance group 19/20 in the newer range? Apart from insurance it's petrol prices that are putting me off as well, at the moment i'm getting 30-35mpg in my civic and have heard subaru max at about 23 if your lucky. I don't have a lead foot but i do like to enjoy my car. If I can get the car for a good price then this wouldn't be a problem. What's reliablity like on older model subarus? I seen one as i was looking over details on www.parkers.co.uk called an RB5 turbo? puts out 214bhp and is a more healthy insurance group 17! thing is i'm used to my nice newish car and dont wanna buy something that feels like it's seen better days or has tacky looking and feeling interior like a lot of older cars seem to have. Dont wanna sound snobby there lol.
  3. thanks for the reply folks, i didn't realise the sl came with leather seats, means its out of the question as i hate leather. Refering to the insurance i'm gonna be 21 with 2ncb, so even if i did want the faster versions i dont think i could. Very most i can justify spending on insurance is £1500 but it al depends how much i get the car for. My max budget is going to be £12000 and i'm very supprised to see how cheap some are going for. thanks for the spoiler info, sounds like even i could it.
  4. Hey guys and girls, well as the title says i'm confused and looking at a subaru as a possible option to buy in few months time, im total baffled by differant information i'm getting. I was looking at a 2003-2005 model but theres no way i can afford insurance, petrol and parts for an sti model which is what appears to be the holy grail of models. The model which appeals is the turbo sl, now some places say its group 17 insurance (manageable), others group 19 (could be a problem)? Is this all to do with this prodrive upgrade kit? Sorry about the first post essay but i got a few questions: 200bhp is more than fast for me so i'm not fussed about all the power from the models up but the bit i do like is the really lairy spolier. would it be an easy swap with a small one the sl comes with? How are these cars generally viewed by the subaru community? Having a civic sport and the moment it's viewed as a type r wannabe and i hate the negitive comments you get from people about it, it's an excellently set up car for the power its got and if your not minted for the insurance of a type r then why not lol. How do you guys and girls with long legs find getting in and out, i've always had a 3 door car and this is the main thing putting me off? Thanks in advance, Dave p.s. i did try to use the search button before anyone says it after about an hour of looking a thought it easier to ask lol.
