  1. Will do. First weekend, got one side polished and waxed, still to do front, back and passenger side. Also picked up a few second hand bits this weekend too. Quite fancy updating front bumper to facelift too.
  2. Does anyone want to swap a leather interior (very good nick) for black and grey UK turbo interior? Also, anyone want to swap Prodrives as above, 17's with all round very good recent Goofyear Eagle F1's? The Prodrives are straight but corroded and need a refurb. And Im not keen on 17's on a classic. Im looking for std. 16's (5 spoke & silver), not fussed about tyres or if anyone has any for sale?
  3. Ah, yeh. Looking back now, that looks a little dodgy!
  4. Well after selling up the wagon last year due to new job Ive bought a cheap classic as a toy / runabout. 1998 S reg only 51K, 2 owners since new with last guy having owned it since 2001. New brake pads, discs, pipes and calipers. Recent 4 Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres. Leather interior - although im still unsure on it, might do a swap if anyone wants to. Alloys (Prodrive) could do with a refurb though. Goes very smooth for a 14 year old. Surprisingly little lag.
  5. Still live same place but new job in Inverness, had to get a diesel, went for Auris sr180, not a bad wee machine but fancy a classic scooby to play with again. Maybe being a bit too picky, but a face lifted classic preferred.
  6. Well didnt last long, looking to get back into the fold with a cheap classic wagon, maybe a bugeye at a push. Does anyone know anything about this one? Tasteful mods, although would be looking for OEM 5 spoke 16" alloys. Trying to get up and see it. http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/impreza-wagon/91729801
  7. Redlines for me (even though mine are kinda similar to the tarmacs) Just a point worth mentioning, you going for 17s or 18's? Only reason being is that when I lowered my wagon and put 18's on, offset had to be spot on (as the wagons dont have the flared arches) hence the P1 alloys fitted - everything was close, especially tyres to the shocks. Il chuck on a pic too...
  8. Looks good! Like the new splitter too. Il have to stick my Evo style black though, just not the same choice of splitters for hawkeyes, especially wagons with the slightly narrower dimensions.
  9. No problem, remember to give the solenoid and pipes and clean / soaking too. Dont worry about being shy with the cleaner, I did it twice, think I didnt put enough in 1st time, it just evaporates anyway. Think the long term solution is to get breather pipe / oil catch cans, Im quite impressed with the Hyperflow ones.
  10. Yep, had exactly the same problem last weekend on my hawkeye. The 2.5's are greedy on the oil or more so on breathing oil vapour, what I have just learned from others is not to fill the oil up to full / max level on the dipstick, keep it between half and 2/3 on the dipstick level. This allows the breather pipes to work away without getting too clogged. I had my oil filled up to max and was causing a bit of havic including the boost solenoid. So take a little oil out (ive got a suction pump with long thin tube I can fit down the oil dipstick tube - allows me ti finely adjust oil level) and give the boost solenoid a good clean with electrical cleaner, few quid for halfords, also sprayed some brake cleaner down the two pipes that connect to the solenoid - you will be shocked how much dirt/ grim/gunk will come out the solenoid when you give it a shake after soaking it with the cleaner. Felt 100 times smoother as soon as i went out. Good luck.
  11. Does it feel a bit jumpy/ stuttery when coming on boost 2-2.5k revs? Kinda hesitates a little then boost comes on when you pull above 2.5k revs?
  12. I must be getting old, as daft as it sounds, nice car but too low for everyday use with my job. And the legacy needs to be low to look good. Ive got a Rav for kicking about in but looking to go to one car. Fozzy seems to fit the bill at the moment - just need to get used to the box look! The Kuga 2.5T is always at the back of my mind too, but would need a bit of tweaking done to get the best out of the engine. As far as I know its detuned Focus ST engine, possibly still the same turbo though which would make life easier to get the figures up.
  13. After the meet today in elgin and discussing new cars, Ive to change my car in November latest to keep within the work rules (4 years old). Sometimes look at the hatches and yes and sometime no. With revisions averaging out 2-3 years, bugeye, blobeye, hawkeye - dont suppose any one knows if any revised Impreza or facelift or anything coming up at end of this year or next year to help persuade myself to stick with an Impreza? Ive even half convinced myself of a Forester! eeek!
  14. My ignorance on early classics, do they still throw CEL lights and engine codes? Is there a CEL light on?
  15. Yeh, airline hose came to mind straight away, unfortunately dont have one at home though - although the missus does blow a load of hot air a lot!
  16. Cheers bud, plus big ta for popping out with the diagnostic the other night too. Although no codes - that actually made me feel better. Yep, bit of a freak one the spark plug!? I hope. Spent a while sucking all the small bits out of the spark plug hole with a collection of straws too, just to be sure! lol! Hope you are making good head way with yours too?
  17. Any more detail? The guys have been great on here helping me out with mine over the last fortnight. Does it turn over and not catch? Just crank? Start then die? or nothing at all?
  18. I had mine up at 36 but have come down to 32-34 region all round. The 36 was a bit "skippy" with coilovers. 32-34 region is great for all weather situations - for me anyway.
  19. Ok, looked at the car again today. Got one spark plug out and changed fine - no probs. Moved on to the next one and for the life of me I couldnt get the socket to take to the spark plug. Getting a bit annoyed that you cant see into the damn hole I held my phone down and took a pic. Not the best quality but as you can see the white ceramic part of the plug and has come off in bits and wasnt allowing my socket to get in and grab the plug. So after 3/4 hour with a tiny headed screwdriver and a bit of sucking, managed to slide the loose bits out and get the socket on to get the plug out. Old and busted with new hotness! Duly replaced and she is running perfect now, if not slightly better...wonder if there was a hairline fracture in the plug for a while? Anyway happy man again and big thanks to all those helping with suggestions, views and opinions - much appreciated.
  20. Havent put in the new plugs yet. Ive got them though. If the farting and spitting from the exhaust is signs of a dodgy plug- Ive got a fair idea which plug is the culprit - the one where I got the socket stuck somehow (below battery), it may have fravtured the head as I was trying to get socket out. Il need to have a look for videos, guides, how to's on changing plugs - it cant be as hard as i'm making it out to be - surely!? Are the plugs set horizontal, ie. 90 deg in or are they on the angle within the block? Almost there anyway. Im sure she is just sulking because I had a look (and a wee shot) of a Ford Kuga with the 2.5 Turbo engine.
  21. Update, got fuel pump changed and just as I was away to put back in assembly, some fuel dribbled out of the billet / large egg shaped thin above the fuel pump, from what I can guess it was a in tank filter. Anyway noticed the rubber o-ring seal that had sealed the unit had popped out and fuel dribbling out. Any way took it apart, set the o-ring in properly and tightened up the unit again. Fitted the new fuel pump anyway. Looked like with the o-ring not forming a seal, pressure was being lost in the system, with fuel coming out the leaky filter and back into tank. Everthing back in and she started first time! Happy Days! However , the car started and up 2000rpm fine than as it started to warm up and settle into idle, she started feeling slightly lumpy, not major - more like the exhaust was farting spitting at me at just tickover, she will rev up ok. No smoke or anything like that. Just the farting and spitting. Wondering if I have not tightened up one of spark plugs right, one of them was a bi**ch and socket almost got jammed in hole. It was maybe suggested that the white cermaic looking part of the plug may have fractured? Would a fractured or slightly loose plug cause farting and spitting at the exhaust with slight lumpiness to engine? Its not as loud or as bad as a misfire, that I do know. PS. All those who had the fuel pump (assembly) faulty were indeed correct. Big Thank You
  22. I had P1 springs on my classic wagon and it looked great. I have seen some lowering springs that cause the back to still set a bit higher than the front, not sure if it was down to length or higher spring rate or both. But the P1 springs it looked dead lavel and handled great too.
  23. TBH, I cant hear anyone speaking let alone fuel pump when engine is going - even more so in a small blockwork garage. I pushed it into the garage with a little help from a few other people. So it can stay there till weekend and il roll it out again, will try and listen to fuel pump better then, but il probably replace it while im in there - easy to get to on a wagon. Cheers for the info.
  24. Well, big thank you to Al / ScoUK for popping round with his laptop, software and cable (didnt realise how easy the software was to get hold of and seemingly a USB to OBD cable is quite cheap too - but thats for another post - where to get the cable). Anyway, 3 codes, MAF, Crankshaft position sensor and intake temp - but these were from earlier on in the day when I unplugged them and tried starting the car to see if I could rule them out or not from being faulty. So wiped the codes, took a few tries to start then caught an actually ran perfect for its longest period, well over a minute with engine sounding spot on. Then the usual, slowly revs dropped and coughed and died. Still no codes - so engine fine. All bets are now on the fuel pump and something dodgy there. Have ordered a new one and will fit on Sat - not a job I fancy doing in dark nights outside during the week. Im actually a bit relieved that there are no codes and engine is fine, I just need to concentrate on the fuel supply side of things. Will keep all you updated of course and big big thank you to all those with their thoughts and ideas.
  25. What part of the system tells how much fuel to pump through / keep pressure? Is it the crankshaft sensor tells something, or does it tell the plugs when to spark in time? ----- Its ok, got it, the EGI module Electonic Gasoline Injection unit, located at rear of car. Not that anyway, im just reading up (or trying to) on the fuel system and how it works.
