thewelsho Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I have managed to be a complete tool (again). This time I filled up the coolant bottle with screenwash!!!! Its the type of stuff you get from Halfords that's pre-mixed. I have been running cold water into the reseviour and header tank thing to try and flush it a bit. Steam billowing everywhere and I think the water temp shot up! Will this cause damage and what to do now???
seafar99 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) Drain the system (take off the bottom rad hose) might be worth back-flushing it with a garden hose, and fill with anti-freeze/water mix. Edited January 22, 2010 by seafar99
RACERX Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 as above drain the system take the bottom hose of and put the garden hose on from above and let it flush and then top up
mystery machine Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 How did you end up producing steam, John? Anyway - as others have said, a good flush and a refill - get yourself some anti-freeze from a Subaru dealer if you want to ensure you have the right stuff (the subject of coolant types and engine compatibility is an absolute minefield!). Hope you get that sorted, mate.

And yeah, I dunno how many posts I have read on here about how to fill a radiator without getting air-locks and crap like that. Man, I just so cannot be bothered!!!!! How much antifreeze needs to go in anyway? Edited January 22, 2010 by TheWelsho
StrikE Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 oh no you didn't............ well certainly cleaned that engine out Just drain it, remove bottom rad hose [30 secs] Give it a good flush out with a garden hose, in the header tank Fill it up with clean water after re attaching the bottom hose run the engine for 5 mins, yes run the engine gets all the water out of the waterways inside the engine remove same hose from rad at the bottom and drain, flush again. Hose back on Fill with good quality anti-freeze as per manufacturers instructions Go to specsavers and buy one get one free lol
