thewelsho Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Hi Folks I was thinking about treating myself to some bucket seats for my Hawkeye WRX, but as with most things to do with cars, I am clueless about this. I hear people talking about "rails" and stuff and I have no idea what that means. I have no idea what to look for, where to look or how much I should pay. Any help/advice would be much appreciated I had a quick look on eBay and found these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/COBRA-monaco-bucket-...A1%7C240%3A1318 Are then any good? THANKS!
col666 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Thats a very basic bucket seat, in my opinion it would cheapen your whole interior not to mention turn pink after the sun's been on them for a few months. I had these in a 205 and they were pretty uncomfortable. The shell backed seat's look a lot better and are probably lighter, spend another £200 and you'll get 2 seats that are far superior to those things. Those seats are £95 brand new from demon tweeks, got a catalogue here.

thewelsho Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 John have a look in the motorsport section of demon tweeks .There is a far selection of bucket seat's and you need to had vat on the top of the price . Are these prices for one seat or the pair?
thewelsho Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 It's each, surely? Yeah, I thought that, but looking at the prices of some of these I was rather hopeing it was for a pair!
craigdmcd Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 John, it's worth looking at the DT Modified Road Car catalogue, as it has reclining bucket seats. No matter what, you get, you will require new vehicle specific runners or fixed mounting rails. The downside to fitting fixed buckets with rails is that you can't modify the position for longer trips. Also, I've been on DT website, and it isn't as comprehensive as either of their catalogues (the new 2009 Motorsport one is just out by the way). Seats are always priced individually BTW, excluding VAT and carriage. The best place to try seats is to go to the Autosport show, where virtually every style of seat is on show from all the manufacturer's. Hope this helps

So I'm looking for a set of seats with runners, not rails. At least I know were I going with that part of it These any good? http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/Pro...p;pcode=S/S823B OR http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/Pro...ode=COBMNP-S-BK Edited November 23, 2008 by TheWelsho

Spaceman Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 John i have a black sparco sprint5 in my garage if you want a seat in it to see what you think looks quality aswell btw going to fit in my ra forthe hillclimbing unless i sell it for a lighter seat. Greig
craigdmcd Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 John, if it is for road use, and trying to keep it to a budget, then this is probably more suitable OMP seat or anything from that area in their catalogue

But since you already have it, what do you think of it? John, if it is for road use, and trying to keep it to a budget, then this is probably more suitableOMP seat or anything from that area in their catalogue Cheers Craig, its for road and occasional track use.
Spaceman Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 it is actually pretty comfy sitting in my garage lolhink it would suit you frame even better Greig
gambler Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Is it so you are held in a bit better on track?Have you considered one of the removable 4 point harnesses insetead? If you are using the car everyday i think you will find proper bucket seats a PITA. I have them in my track car and they have minimal padding. Exactly what you need for the track. But i have driven them to spa and the ring and back twice. They are not comfortable on a long journey. The second time i took a cushion for the 680 mile trip home

Yeah, for minimal track use and road use. However, I don't do long journeys in the Scoob, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. If I did, I'd do what you did and use a cushion I already have 3-point harnessess that are removable but I also wanted the seats to improve the look of the interior as well as even better holding I know there are better things to spend my money on... but if I followed that instinct I'd be driving a Ford Focus Diesel or something (no offence to Focus drivers, its just NOT a Scoob). Thanks for the input
craigdmcd Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 If it only for occasional track use, and not RAC MSA events, thn I would probably go for the sports recliners. Best of both worlds then. I have a set in my Legacy RS, and are superb at all times (they are Sparco ones though)

craigdmcd Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Yeah, I'd agree with that, but they seem to cost a good bit more than regular bucket seats. That's because they have to fit a secure winding mechanism. How much did the Defi's cost? Think what you are getting for your money.

But these will make you really happy

gambler Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I use sabelt seats and 6 point harnesses. There is a bit of welding to get the harness points in though, its probably not worth it for the occasional track day. Sparco seats are also pretty good and not bad value for money. With all things its always best to go for the best you can afford. I would not bother with the carbon fibre. Slightly stronger, slightly lighter but 5 times the price. Demon tweeks have a good range of seats. Not always the cheapest though. You can always look there and buy elsewhere. I went direct to sabelt as they are just down the road in carlisle

Did you see the two links I posted near the top opf the thread? Those are the ones I was thinking about; any thoughts on those?
gambler Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 They look ok. They are sprint seats so im not sure if they would be very comfortable, even for a bucket. A lot of the rally guys use the sparco evo seats. I have been in a car with them and they are very good. Best to actually try one before you spash out and buy it. See what you find the best compromise

See what you find the best compromise Yeah, its just finding somewhere that sells a range of seats and that is easy to get to. Just got an e-mail from Demon Tweaks. For two Sparco sprint seats at £130 each, its going to cost me £500!!!! That includes carraige of course, but still, thats over £200 just for rails and fittings! So £500 for a couple of £130 seats... hardly seems cost effective! Any other providers? Edited November 24, 2008 by TheWelsho
