Anyone in Moray with a Openport / OBD2 Diagnostic cable?

Hey guys/gals,

Need a semi-urgent favour.  As I reported last week I've got the dreded CEL light on my WRX dash.  Ordered a Openport cable from tactrix.com early last week in the hope it would arrive in good time so I can diagnose the problem myself without having a garage charge me £££'s just to tell me that some random sensor needs cleaning. Unfortunately my cable seems to have gotten lost somewhere over the atlantic and I'm still left with a car which I dont really want to use until I find out what the problem is.  to make matters worse I'm supposed to be driving down to my bruvs in 2 weeks time (600 odd miles away) and need the car in good working condition for then and it's not looking likely. [:o]

So after that we bit of background if anyone in the area has a suitable cable that they can let me borrow for a few days just to check things over it woudl be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Eveninig. Prior to getting the GEMS fitted all I used to do was go to what used to be Subaru Inverness, they put the box on told me what caused the light to come on then cleared it for nothing could be worth giving them a ring.

Cheers steve!

If the cable doesn't arrive by the end of the week I may try that.. Just went out for a wee trip to forres and back to see if I can diagnose anything the old fashioned way (dodgy sounds, lack of boost, stuttering e.t.c.) and found nothing.. all appears well, apart from the CEL light still being on.. I'm going to try and get the wheel alignment booked at GT Tyres this weekend so may make an extended trip through to INV if their open..

In fact need to get some plastic plugs for the bumper /wheel arch so may take a trip along to Aird Motors too.. [:o]

Try Reekies (John Gray & Son) in Forres, they used to be a scoob dealer and it's where I always took the last scoob.

hey up ScoUK

Have you spoken to the guys at Glenburgie cars just outside of Forres?? He is a great guy and has worked on my WRX since it was imported. I'm sure he'll be a lot cheaper than the big garages.

Let us know what happens

Hey swifty!

Did think about glengurbie as another alternative.. Actually started running the car on the raod again today as my alternative form of transport runs out of MOT tomorrow.  And just arrived home tonight to find that the tracking on my openport cable says it's arrived in the UK (a week after it left the US) and goind through customs so Woohoo! Shouldn't be long now..

Car seems to be running fine, no silly knocks, lack of power so at a guess if anything it's possibly runnign a bit rich but hopefulyl I'll soom find out.

I tell you one thing I've noticed after running around in a Peugot 306 and a Rover 214 cabriolet [:D] the past week going back to the scooby, makes you realise how well built the impreza really is.  Everything just feels no tight and solid cant wait to get rid of that damn light [:D]

A rover 214 cabriolet????? No wonder you were happy to get back in the scooby!!!! Being a new impreza owner myself I can easily say it's the best car I've owned it never fails to put a smile on your face (until my first MOT time, but that's a different story).

Your cable sholdn't take too long to get through customs and into your hands. Keep in touch and let us know what proves to be the problem.

hi Al, ive had the cel come on twice and had it checked out as it was still under warranty and apparently it was a bit of dirt going through the wastegate- both timews it happened id just filled the tank at the same petrol station so i now go elsewhere. like you say car was running fine just had the light on

cheers dave

No warranty for me sadly..

Just back from INV and parcel force office picking up me cable.. Plugged in.  Sure enough error:

P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold

Which seems a bit odd as it should normally kick up by removing the 3rd cat.  Also it's had the cat removed for nearly 2 months now and only now has the light come on. So ECU Reset and the light disappeared and I'm happy to report all is well [;)]

So if anyone in the area ever want a CEL diagnosed give me a shout.!

Now, where'd I put that re-mapping software [6]

Mine used to do it when I fitted the tubular manifold thus removing the pre-cat in the up-pipe to the turbo. Yes I took the expensive fix and went for a stand alone ECU. If it comes back on get in touch with Pete (scoobydoom) as he was told be Andy F what resistor to fit to save changing the Lambda probe. Better still get out there and give it a good thrash. Hopefully when I get back up in two weks I will have my car back so I am well overdue for a run. SO bring it on. See you around Steve.

Aye sometimes a good thrashing fixes lots of things [:D]

Actually if it keeps coming back on the OpenECU software I've got will allow me to disable the warning if it blips up again.  But yeah Pete told me about the resistor fix for his up-pipe..  That'd work too.
