Subaru Impreza V Volkswagen shootout

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys/Girls. I'm organising a VW drag day at Crail on the 24th of June and would like to invite you along to a shootout. The day is based around a normal RWYB Sunday we are running a VW day around this.

Our humble little bugs share a flat four engine as well.

Anyway cutting to the chase we will have a mixture of 11, 12 , 13 and 14sec cars running on the 24th and wonder if any Subaru owners would like to join us.

Even if a small number turned up we could pair each other off into similiar timed cars and have some fun.

A similar event occurs each year at Avon park its Japanese v Volkswagen, they call it the ashes. Obviously we would have to come up with some sort of trophy and name.

If anyone fancies tanning a VW come along. Any comments no matter what you think are greatly appreciated.

Any questions email me peter@volkswagen.freeserve.co.uk

Thanks for letting me use the forum. Hopefully I will evolve one day and buy a reliable flat four[:D]

I have been in contact with all the VW clubs in Scotland and the North of England so it should be a good turn out.

I'm running an old 1958 VW Karmann Ghia and ran 4 weeks ago a 12.7 at 110. Thats with old flat four v-dub engine and turbo.

My friend with a 1954 beetle ran a 12.3 with a normally aspirated  flat four engine. Then he bent all his push rods. We were down at Santa Pod.

We are members of the VW drag racing club. The biggest growth is people putting the Subaru engine in the back of a beetle.

Although it still doesn't help a beetle go round corners unlike an Impreza LOL

I also witnessed a Golf Mk2 doing a 10.6. The guy just put a set of slicks on the front and he was off. I think he was running a 1.8T Audi engine.

Anyway it would be great to see some of you guys on the 24th. I will advertise the shootout on the run sheet. You will be made more than welcome.

Thanks

Peter

I have just looked at the website top fifty 1/4 mile times very impressive. I think 9.1 seconds 158mph is out of this world total respect to Andy and no doubt it goes around corners as well.

We will have the fastest front wheel drive car in Europe in our ranks so it should make for a great shootout as long as the 9.1 sec impreza doesn't turn up[:D]

 Adios flat four lovers

hopefully andy will be running 8`s by then and will turn up lol [:P] but i doubt it he`s a VERY busy guy [:D]

Sounds a bit daft I think I saw Andy run a 9.9 second 1/4 at Crail a couple of years ago. The thing that struck me was how easy it looked compared to some old school hot rod running a 12 sec 1/4. If he starts to dip into the 8's thats the street car eliminator territory, bring it on.

My knowledge is limited but I would love to find out more about his car. The fastest aircooled VW door slammer is an 8.6 at 166mph. Again its sole purpose is to run the strip when it comes to corners watch out LOL.

rumour has it he did a 9.15 at avon park today, only read that on scoobynet though, heres his site www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk, hes the number one mapper for most of us [Y]

was down at the scooby shoot out the other weekend there and seen andys car in action

this thing can go stoopid fast in a straight line AND do very well in the corners

he was actually leading on the circuit for a while and came 3 over all and was first on the 1/4 mile

First and foremost Andy is a Scotsman [Y] and a very talented one at that [8-|]......... sorry Andy lol, lol.

Shows the well heeled southern breatheren that hes one step ahead of the crowd, and always seems to have that little bit extra when its needed.

Well done Andy, you cant beat experience, which he has built up over many years.

p.s. Steve, get a set of Toyo 888`s and leave the 360 club for good, or stay off the loud pedal m8 [;)]

the track wheels i had on had a set of very worn bridgestons on, got the set of wheels with tyres for 150 quid

thought better to pay that than 130 quid per corner after a track day or two

are the toyo's any good in the wet ?

you`ll be in the 720 club using them in the wet, you can hire slicks from about £40 from Wheels Around at Knockers, gives you a chance to try before you buy and leave the track with plenty of tread [:)] if you get my drift.

Marty.

It's only a little 1.8!  Normally runs between 14 and 14.1 but it's done a few runs sub 14 the best being 13.65 @ 107.4  Win or lose it should be a laugh [H]

If I get lucky I'll do this again:  http://www.fastvwgolf.co.uk/sti%20at%20crail_new.wmv  [Y]
