Help...Car wont start every time

This has happened about 3 or 4 times in the last two weeks. Press key fob and the car opens , use second immobiliser fob thingy, everything seems ok. Turn key and ignition lights come but when i go to start it.....NOTHING........not even a noise.

At first i thought it might be parked near a phone mast or the like messing about with the immobiliser but the more it happens the more annoying it gets. Last time it happened i was getting fuel and it took and hour and a half for it to start..WTF !

Anyone had similar problems ??

cheers

I would have thought the mast thing as well.  Have you tried entering your pin number into the keypad to by pass the imobiliser to confirm whether thats the problem.  Other than that I think a quick visit to your local Subaru dealer and get them to plug it in a do a diagnostic test would be worth it.

Hi Dave,

First thing i tried was entering the pin number but sadly had no effect (apart from what it's meant to do ) . That's why im starting to wonder what's going on. Hope it's nothing too serious.

A'm gobsmacked the battery lasted 1½ hoors Frank !

But if it eventually did start, then it aint your immoby or nought else other than probably yer fuel pump on its way to fuel pump heaven.

Or possibly an intermittent blockage in yer fuel filter.

Sounds lack  of fuel to me mate.

So its not even turning over?? Must be either starter motor or immob surely, if it was fuel pump, fuel filter etc it would prolly turnover but just not spark.... ??

Alan, i've not long replaced the fuel pump to support my future mods so i had thought of that but im no mechanic so dont understand what's going on.Never thought about the filter though.

Most of the time you Do hear the pump prior to start up but sometimes you Don't.. If it was fuel related wouldn't i hear some noise from the starter instead of silence . It did happen once before i changed the f/pump but i just put it down to phone masts , now it's happening to often for comfort.

Thanks for the help so far guys. Much appreciated .[Y]

Surely got to be immobiliser related..... take it you have the standard sigma alarm?

When you have the key in and your at the ignition setting if you press the alarm key (like you have to when you leave it over 30 secs) does it do anything, i'm sure i used to hear a click as though the relay had been engaged / dis-engaged or something... can't remember if the light on the dash went or not either?? (i've got a classic with aftermarket alarm now so can't compare)

Yes it's the standard Sigma Alarm. Can't remeber the procedure exactly.. When it didn't start i pressed the fob, it locked the doors, pressed it again so both immobiliser lights came and then.. Nothing..[:^)] On saturday night i stooped at the shop ,came out and the same thing happened. then it started after 3 attempts ( still no turn-over).. It's starting to do ma nut in.

Am i missing something here ?

Don't think its you mate... think it is the alarm...

Do you have a spare key fob, ie the spare? If so maybe have it handy and if it happens give it a shot... on the other hand though entering the pin into the keypad should defo have worked.... i would try and get Subaru or a Sigma alarm specialist to take a look (that said i may be barking up the wrong tree but thats where i would be heading towards)

I've tried both sets of keys Chris but to no avail  :(  After i'd put in the pin number it did lock and then re-open the doors and put the light on the dash but still diddly squat.

Looks like i'll need to delve into the modding fund to find out once and for all..[:'(]
