STi_Bandit Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Dont know much about classics iam afraid, but having been looking at a UK car today and iam resonably tempted by it, was wondering what is the potental for modding it Chassis (full whiteline ?), Engine (decats, mapping), brakes etc. Cheers for the advice............... Bandit
wrxmania Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 EH????????? What about the STI?????? If you are buying a car to mod then the cheapest base/best headstart would be an Import. Neofax is selling a '97 RA for good money. Has lots of good bits.

Bandit Pleanty of scope for modding a classic same as a newage - it has ECUTEK so can be easily mapped.
STi_Bandit Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 Dont get me wrong i love the sti, but to lose the finance is a much more appealing idea. and id like to know what can be done to them, (Well i know anything with the right bank balance) but what can be done with to start, Maybe also what i should be looking for on a classic of this year. Again its only an idea but if numbers work out then it could be a possibility. Bandit
wrxmania Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 You could spend 2k on a decent selection of classic mods and have a really good car - but get a known, well modified classic base and you'll be laughing.
STi_Bandit Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 Tis fair enough, and maybe thats the way to do it but i have outstanding finance, so to sell mine privatley surley any HPI check is going to say it has outstanding finance. Bandit
RA Dunk Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 another newager see`s the light and goes classic!! [H] whos next then?? []
STi_Bandit Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 Not done anything yet mate just trying to get an understanding of Classic's what to look for, what to do etc, sorry if iam a tad vague, I may just turn and keep the sti,
scooby222 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 get a good condition one, ideally standardish or thats been owned for a while so the guy really knows it. full decat or sports cat, induction or panel filter and remap, whiteline goodies with p1/sti suspension, newage brembos or ap big brake kit and if its a toy strip out as much weight as you can, rear seats etc and youl have a very good fast road car thats still civil in town. if you want the biggest bang for your buck go for an ra, but youl get a much newer uk car for the same money

Bandit True - it would. You'd need to get a loan (easy) - pay off the car then sell it privately. You'll get more for your STI, and you'll also get a much better classic than you would at a main dealer - ie by better I mean one which has good mods, is an probably an import and costs a couple of k less to start with. Do a search on the actual prices classics are going for and you'll find HUGE variety - you would find say a W plate classic standard for £5/6k easily but at a dealer it may be £8k. For £8k you'd be looking to get a late-ish classic STI with sensible mods. Trying to chop in your car in P.Ex against a classic at a dealer would see you saving maybe £5k tops - have you had a trade in price for your car from a dealer yet? That may be an eye opener. Been there - tried this situation with my last car a few times - its' not worth it - and the depreciation loss on these cars is HUGE until they get to 5 years old. I'd say keep the STI, pay it off and work with it. It'll be a good car in the long run. If you don't plan, or find it difficult, to keep a car for a good few years - chop it in - without taking another car (ie sell it to dealer for cash), pay off your finance and buy the best classic you can find - age is irrelevant, just get what you want. And don't be tempted into the buying the rawest one you can find just because it is the most pure - if you're like me, you'll find you never push the car hard enough anyway, and a classic with mods is pretty raw anyway, particularly when the power is upped [] Good fun though. G.T. Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/thread/918377.aspx what about this one bandit, no need to worry about mods
STi_Bandit Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 Very nice spec gareth, but it would leave me with two car lol, going to phone the finance people tommorow find out what my settlement figure is, maybe see what i can get a loan for and maybe try and sell it in the old trade(Just seems hard to sell subarus these days). See what the garge also says tommorow as i can always walk away. Bandit
gus the bus Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Bandit! when I sold the 300 I got Dave (the guy that bought the car) to send a cheque for the Finance part of the car to the Finance company( he then knew it was cleared off!) and he gave the balance to me in hard cash[] Deffo the way to go mate. Just see how much fun I'm having with a £5k car. Full whiteline set-up will cost you £600 fitted. Thats springs, drop links, anti lift kit , front n rear ARBS, steering rack bushes and the geometry reset. Other mods are easy to come by and pretty cheap. I would go with the unmodified one myself then you know where your starting from. Gus
minty Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 htt p: //i1http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s163/wrx_2007/DSCF0429.jpg52.photobucket.com/albums/s163/wrx_2007/DSCF0429.jpg im selling a nice import in silver have a look
STi_Bandit Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 Intresting Gus i take it he sent the cheque to the finace company before you handed the keys over, or handed over the car. You were a little lucky trying to see a limited edition may be harder to shift a bog standard sti with extra bits. Bandit
gus the bus Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Yes, sent before hand and checked that it had cleared first. Copy of final settlement sent to the new owner for his records too. Gus
STi_Bandit Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 I'll keep that in mind Gus, have a wee think about it, Will see what thee garge says regarding part exchange as the car i saw was really mint serviced every 5k and would suit my needs to the ground. Will be intresting to know what the car is worth as a trade in, and iam no silly if they dont show the goods ill walk away. Bandit
