Best laid plans of mice and men...  No Ninja Downpipes available for 3-4 weeks [:'(]

So gonna have to spend some more if I want this anytime soon.  Scoobyworld suggested H&S Sportcat but @ double the price it's a no no.

TSL Thundercat is possible as not as expensive as H&S but cant work out if it is 2.5 or 3" either.

Help!

Alan, if your going for the remap anyway why are you bothering with a sportcat???? You will always get an MOT if you put the centre section (4bolts and its off) cat back in.

Infact you probably wont even need to do that[:P]

I want to keep the car fairly standard as the full PPP but with something a little extra - dont want hassle of MOT or roadside checks to worry about or to complicate matters when I come to sell it.

Looking like I will go for the TSL box.

Gus,

When i Spoke to Hayward and Scott about getting a full Decat system, and a cat made up to fit in the Mid and centre come MOT they said that they didnt recommend a cat in that section due to the distance down the system and the temperature the cat needs to work, would make it extremely hard to pass the MOT.

To answer your question the TSL thundercat down pipe is 3" After the open collector and the sports CAT and then the piping is 2 1/2" after that from memory

the bandit is right, h&s said the same to me, a sports cat will only lose you 2-3 bhp over a decat. h&s advised to get rid of the 3rd cat and the up pipe cat .... incase it starts to fragment and ruin the turbo.

there are few places that do then, check out www.exhaustsuk.com they have sports cat downpipes.

I'm lost here, i have an afterburner b/box, de-resonated centre section and 3rd cat delete. Is this wrong running these parts or is it just when you start deleting up and down pipes you need to worry?

Posted

iain, you only worry about the downpipe, h&s told me you can do the 3rd cat delete and up pipe delete - leaving only the downpipe cat in place. they also said you dont need to remap it with these two off.

iain, they said that taking the 3rd cat and up pipe cat away it will give approx 15-20 bhp. so good value.

iain, if you have the 3rd cat delete pipe on and its an STI you have what you need on the car unless you did want to decat / sports cat.

i have a wrx so the info i got was for it, but will be similar to what you need.

Ive ran Backbox, centre, and midpipe for around a year now and the sound really is intoxicating, if your intrested iain my mid pipe will be coming off in a few months time to add a new exhaust system so you can have it £50 of your crispy queens notes.

I only knew about the uppipe when i was ordering an up pipe and they guys said you do realise that your sti does not have a cat in the up-pipe DOhhh [:$]

On a New Age STi is essentially a 4 pipe system :-

1. Back Box

2. Resonated Centre Setion

3. Mid Cat Pipe

4. Downpipe with cat.

5. Turbo

If you go for one of Gus's Downpipes it is longer so replaces the both the downpipe and the mid cat pipe and will connect to your centre section so would make the car a 3 pipe system

Iain, thats exactly wot you have! these fackers are just confusing you![:)]

The only other thing you could do is either a decat downpipe which requires a remap or a sportcat DP which is what Alan K is talking about.

aye but thats on a Newage!!!! I've had a number of folk who have retained the centre cat in a classic and put it back on for an MOT and passed with flying colours.
