graeme_stuart Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Getting fed up now.[:@]Got to take the car to Barry Currans tomorrow because the front passenger strut is knackered. 13000 miles.[:@] This is the second scoob with the same problems but the last one was rear ones ( that i had to pay for)[:@]. I have to limp it up to Ramsey in the morning, taking a day off work to get it sorted[:@]. No doubt getting a tin box as courtesy car[:@] I think the impreza is the best car in the world, but my luck with them is appauling.[] A very p'd off owner.[8o|]
Cret Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 What's happened to the strut? Is it leaking or is it bent or something? A bit poor I agree but perhaps some aftermarket ones might be more reliable maybe?

I have calmed down a bit now[] Not sure this time, but the last ones where faulty, so this sounds like the same problem.apart from this time it sounds much worse. On my way to big baz shortly. Will let you know.

graeme_stuart Posted March 23, 2007 Author Posted March 23, 2007 Hope its not too expensive a repair mate [] Wish I had known you had to take the car in, I am off work this week and would have run it in for ya to save you from takin a day off for it Cheers for that Dave []. Hopefully the warranty will cover it as its only a year and a half old. Got to leave it with them, wont provide me with a loan car, because i am not a customer of theirs. So my brother is taking me to Douglas where Glen Cooper has a car waiting for me, Which is nice [].
heazille Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Usual Customer Service from Barry Curran Motors then!! Would have to say, any one thinking of a new Scooby would be better of with Holdsworth @ Wigan Boat trip i know but at least they know how to look after customers!! Ta Ta Richard
Dicky_Bird Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I've had no end of trouble with my scooby, it's a 2006 Sport Wagon that I bought from Barry Curran. Very disappointed with Barry Curran. It went in and they gave me an 8 year old Nissan Almera, nice. When they came back to me they couldn't find the problem and it has never been sorted so it could breakdown again at any time. [:@]
cupradave Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Hi and welcome to the SIDC forums dude There seems to be alot of this sort of service with Barry Curran at the moment, I really hope it does not tar the marque for you as they are such great cars. From what I understand they do not even have a qualified Subaru trained technition at BC's just now. []
Dicky_Bird Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Hi Dave Well I went there with my dad and bought the car in good faith and maybe Barry Curran sold it in good faith aswell I will never know but after a few months I couldn't get the thing started, then it was cutting out over the mountain and vibrating then the final straw was it wouldn't start down the airport after we returned from being away. I don't know much about Barry Curran and the dealership but I feel I've been let down. [|-)]
cupradave Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I feel I've been let down. [|-)] fully understand that mate I realise it is warrenty covered (or at least should be) but have you had it looked at anywhere else to try and find the problem? somewhere like South Coast Performance in Douglas should be able to have a look and they certainly know what they are doing.
Dicky_Bird Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Hi Dave No, nobody else has looked at it apart from Currans due to the warrenty thingy. I'll just keep driving it and see how it goes, it's a real shame because it is a beautiful car, without a doubt, you just lose a bit of confidence. I'm sure this is a one off because Subaru do have a good reliablity record. Do you know Dave if anyone meets for a lap over the ountain or around the TT course on the island. I've never pushed my subaru, basically because I don't have the experience and wondered if I could follow someone over the mountain to gain some confidence in it ?? I know the Sport Wagon is not the same as the STi but I would have thought the handling may be something near. []
cupradave Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 You are more than welcome to join me for a blast anytime mate, just give me a shout, have PM'd you my mobi number There are various meets through the year just keep your eye open in here, we have the Manx ScoobyFest comming up in July between the 18th and 24th tying in with the rally that weekend, there will be a number of scoobs comming from across as well so there should be a good turnout. You can find more info on this here http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/thread/872739.aspx and here http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/thread/896723.aspx Have also given you more info about Scoobyfest in the PM I have sent you []

As Dave has said, i believe that the 'factory trained' mechanic has left. if that is correct then bc should not be doing warranty work as no one is qualified to do so and perhaps subaru would like to help with the cost's of transport to another dealer ( i reccemend TG Holdsworth @ Wigan) Certainley worth a phone call at least and whilst i also use Paul @ SouthCoast i do not believe that's an option due to the warranty issues Ta Ta Richard ps, if you 'e' mail me ( prouse@manx.net ) i will add you to my list for when we have another meet (pub evening meet due shortly)
dazleggy Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 i believe the scooby fella up there was steve brew (franchised trained tech), who now has his own garage down at hills meadow, just in case you need to know
cupradave Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 i believe the scooby fella up there was steve brew (franchised trained tech), who now has his own garage down at hills meadow, just in case you need to know evening Daz does he have the proper diagnostic equipment in his own garage?
Dicky_Bird Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Hi Rich I did contact Subaru UK and they said BC should take the car until they fix the problem but because it is recurring problem BC said they could be here for weeks trying to sort it, which I suppose is true. I said to BC I don't care what you do I want my car sorting please, I paid a lot of money for it and it's unreliable, didn't get far really. [:^)]

He does have diagnostic gear, and he advertises himself as a subaru mechanic so i would say more than likely, i got him to have a look at the legacy, before i got the gt4, i forgot to mention steve sooner. Doh!
