iain01 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Anyone bought a euro import from motorpoint? Is spec same as U.K, does it increase insurance?
andy Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 St3ph3n got his through them. He's got exams right now so not around as much as usual, but he's best placed to advise. Mine is the same as his (or was before he went mod crazy!) - Maltese import though I didn't get mine via Motorpoint. Differences are - no alarm, no locking wheel nuts and missing an additional layer of underseal compared to UK spec cars. You will have hassles getting the warranty book and have to register the car with Subaru UK in order to get the pan-European warranty, but the warranty is valid. I saw no increase in insurance for driving a European import. Join the SIDC and get your discount with Keith Michaels. It's well worth it for that alone.I'm replacing my 04 WRX later this year and looking at an 07 STi (and sod the increase in road tax. You only live once and they'll shaft me no matter what I do.) Whilst I'd like to support my local dealer, UK pricing just can't compete with the price of imports. That is something only Subaru UK can address.
iain01 Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 Cheers Andywrx, I've got a 01 wrx with 52k, the offer was £10850 plus my car to change to pre reg 07 wrx with delivery miles with cat1 alarm & tracker, on the road price.
st3ph3n Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Long story short - My car is an 05WRX Euro Import, full 3 year pan-european warranty which I have claimed on at a UK dealer. Spec was almost UK - seats were different (better) and no alarm. Had alarm and tracker installed when I bought the car. Insurance prices are no different through Keith Michaels. Servicing intervals are very slightly shorter, but I'm not fussed as mine is serviced/modded more regularly anyway! If you're thinking of getting one just check the warranty situation is still the same but everything else should be fine. BUT! Check the UK dealers just now for the excellent Spec D sti prices! I'd be in there like swimwear if I had the cash.
iain01 Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 thanks for reply, not sure if should go for a blobeye & spend money on mods or stretch the budget & go for a hawkeye thro' motorpoint
4Hero Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Hi Iain, Mine is a 56 plate STi from mp, I had some hassle getting my service book from them, but just threatened legal action and all was ok [] Took me 6 months to receive my service book in the end.. The euro sti seats are much better than uk, not sure about the wrx though.. They told me that they would include 1 years subscription to tracker, which they did not when I picked my car up. Again, a little "I'm going to sue your butt" and all was ok in the end. Not sure if it was worth the endless phone calls to mp, and not sure if I'd do it again, but the savings soothed the headaches of the above. Good luck! Neil.
RA Dunk Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I'm replacing my 04 WRX later this year and looking at an 07 STi (and sod the increase in road tax. You only live once Aye, no point in being the richest man in the graveyard m8 []
Alan-G Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 MotorPoint .... Sorry but everything was bad news from them. Got Fab 1's Hyundai coupe FX from them. FINALLY got a test drive out of them. Price was about right MY05 £11k 10kmiles. Picked up the car - NO Feckin' radio (they took it out and said it wasn't standard spec !) Only got 1 key. Finally got the Log book to find it was imported. Getting the WRX was going to be a different story though as it would be Brand new. NO test drive ! They flattly refused. No alarm / tracker. Tracker and alarm HAD to be fitted by them (I thought that would be my choice) This was not an option, they wouldn't sell without these additions. I would be 2nd on the log book. Offered £1000 less than book price for me Celica. Wouldn't go near them again. Got an excellent deal from motordepot in Hull. 1st on the log book, cat1 Toad alarm, locking wheel nuts,Standard Subaru warranty (but had to register with a dealer but no problems) Car was delivered from Hull and Part exchange uplifted for book price without inspection. £3000 cheaper than Motorpoint.
