thinking of winding up the boost - help!!!

Hey Everyone

thinking of turning up the boost on my stock 94 wrx ra, most probably do this with an apexi boost controller , what is the safest level i can boost to?(i have an intercooler water sprayer), also will the fueling have to be changed to compensate the extra boost?, it will be on stock boost 95% of the time.  The Engine is in good condition with 70,000 on the clock.  Also any advice on a good induction kit?

Cheers

Don't go for an induction kit unless yuo want a front mount intercooler or are going for big power. Get a decent panel filter. Its just as good as an induction kit without putting your MAF at risk.

With regards to the boost personally I wouldn't raise it on standard internals but, if you do and you boost to high then the fuel cut can cut in which will need to be bypassed. Not sure if the Apexi boost controller does this for you or not. I'm sure someone will though.

Out of interest why are you turning up the boost?  Standard RA's

are quick off the mark anyway, but the boost an be turned up a little

as they have stronger internals than standard, although it would be an

idea to uprate the fuel pump and regulator to make sure you get enough

fuel in for the extra boost.  Also extend the limit on your credit

card for fuel and get some ear defenders lol....

I raised the boost on my old UK94 wagon up to ~14-14.5psi (think it runs 11psi as std) which was just low enough to stay under the std fuel cut. I did it using a Dawes device, just had to remember and drop it back down a bit during the winter months as it would try and boost higher (and hit the FC).

Ran it like that (plus an induction kit) for a few years with no issues at all, the MAFs on the earlier cars are stronger than the ones on the 96-2000 I believe (or is it 98-2000?).

Raising the boost (plus the full decat) made a huge difference to the way it drove.

mine is going up to scoobyclinic next fri to have decat up down and center re map and uprated fuel pump they say it will then run fine on a induction kit and run well on higher boost thats on a my03 but have had some check light probs since putting the induction kit on

hope that helps

I got a 93 wrx, with a manual boost controller, running at 0.9/0.95 bar, with a decat, it does make a difference,it seems to pull better through the rev's, but you do need to uprate you fuel pump, and i wouldn't bother with an induction kit on yours..on cold days i do get fuel cut, to much fiddling, but i will be replacing it all come summer....
