baser999 Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Yes I know its still only January but having regard to the present club diary there aren't many completely free weekends this side of September - given the costs (shuttle, petrol, shopping etc) and the fact that it can be quite a long day I thought it best to pick a day when there's nothing else planned for the whole weekend. With this in mind we're looking at SATURDAY 7 JULY. Arrangements will be firmed up later on but at this stage the thread is being posted simply to give people plenty of time to sort out diaries, PASSPORTS etc etc. In due course details will be posted up of the shuttles we're travelling on and a rough itinerary for the day so if you decide you want to come along you simply have to book your tickets direct with Eurotunnel. This arrangement worked well last year and we all had a bloody good day out so lets see if we can repeat it this year. [] UPDATE - For information a return ticket (travelling out about 07:50 and returning before 22:00 local time) is going to cost £54 . This is the price per car including passengers, not per person [] Looks like its Saturday 7 July then .......... note your diaries and watch this space for updates.

vickyk Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Bonjour everybody [] As per my comment at the begining of this thread about mabye stopping overnight camping we found this place about 3 miles away from Le Touquet (if thats where we planning to go) http://www.caravancampingsites.co.uk/france/59/chaumiere.htm Its also got its own restaurant and is cheap price for stop over.
turismo Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 barry. have you spoke to eurotunnel about a group discount again. got it down to £44 per car last time if memory serves me correctly.
baser999 Posted March 5, 2007 Author Posted March 5, 2007 Quote have you spoke to eurotunnel about a group discount again. got it down to £44 per car last time if memory serves me correctly. I made enquiries when I first posted the thread and have been told that we need 15 or more vehicles. Recollect that we were looking at about £5 discount last year. Downside though is that I believe one person has to book and pay for it all and I'm not keen on paying for everyone, running about chasing up and collecting money then have people drop out and trying to get their money in. A lot of hassle Dan for a £5 discount, although will email Eurotunnel again to see exactly how the group booking system works as far as paying for it goes etc. As far as stopping overnight , camping b & b whatever , I don't know if we'd still be able to get the £49 fare since its my belief thats the day return fare? Again will make enquiries and report back.
glen_miller Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I've just had a read through the eurotunnel group bookings faff and it says that the group has to travel out and back together. That's not going to work if some are going to stay over night etc. If we are going for a group booking, the easiest way of getting the money together is to all meet up and pay whoever is sorting it,once paid you've got to go[Y] or lose the dough[N]? If you need someone to run around collecting,i don't mind doing some of it(i used to be a debt collector,so i'm qualified!) I'm really excited about all this, feels like Christmas every day now i've got my Scooby![<)]

If you need someone to run around collecting,i don't mind doing some of it(i used to be a debt collector,so i'm qualified!) I agree ......we must all travel on the same journeys and theres unlikely to be 15 if some are intending to stop overnight. At the moment theres only 13 names on the list so allowing for drop-outs I don't know that we'd have 15 going. As regards 'all meeting up to pay' this from past experience is a non-starter....you only need to look at old threads to see how difficult it is to get £10 in for stickers! Really don't think its worth all the hassle for a discount thats unlikely to be more than about £5/8 per car. Last year we set out the precise shuttles we were travelling on and those that wanted to go were left to book their own passage - worked last year and imho probably the easiest way. Will however post up Eurotunnels response.
glen_miller Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Ok,i'll stop with the efficient stuff, tell me when and i'll be there.[Y] Every scooby for him/herself!
baser999 Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 Response from Eurotunnel.........for 15 cars travelling out at 07:50 and returning 21:50 - £48 per car .........for travel out as above but returning say 18:50 Sunday - £52 per car We'd only be looking to save around £4/5 per car and imho not worth the extra hassle involved.
