Evening all,

Worring moment yesterday when i was slowing down on the A20 towards the World of Leather Roundabout and discovered that the car wasn't stopping as sharply as she should do!

Any ideas on how often discs and pads should be replaced (I appreciate that it depends on how hard you drive). I'm a fairly moderate driver and do very low mileage.

Secondly, which pads do people recommend, how much are they and are they easy to fit yourself? (Please bear in mind that my knowledge of the working of cars is :- right peddle = fast and middle peddle = slow!

Cheers

Discs and pads need replacing whenever they run out.Theres not a set amount of miles or a guidline to use.

Just because your pads are low that doesn't mean that you need new discs. Run your finger over the face of the disc to check its still nice and smooth and that there is not a big lip around the edge of the disc. If both of these issues are fine then you need pads only.

If you don't abuse the brakes then I'd go for Mintex 1144's. They work well from cold bu tdo fade under constant abuse. They are around the £110 mark.

If you want brakes that work much better when hot then I'd go for the Ferodo DS2500's. They are a good pad when heated up but don't work so well when they're cold and cost about £160

Graham Goode Racing do both although I'm sure if you shop around you'll be able to get them cheaper.

Personally I think they're pretty straightforward to do, but if your not too confident then get someone to do it for you. Don't forget that if you do it wrong then you'll press the middle pedal and nothing will happen [:D]
