meeting new members

I`m not a member of the SIDC but joined the forum to talk to Scottish Scooby owners. I have owned Imprezas since 2000 (on my 4th now) and feel I could share some of my knowledge and learn more about the cars aswell. I also post on ScoobyNet which I find useful for various things but would like to attend meets and go for runs etc. Does not actually being a member mean that I can`t come along to the meets? I`ve been to SIDC track days on many occasions but not so much recently due to work commitments. I find if your cars not parked in the Pit Lane you`re abit of an outsider (only my opinion of course), and these days they seem to be more Lotus owners. Hope to meet some of you soon in the Glasgow/Central areas. [;)]

I aint a full member but still do the social side of things

At the last Knockhill i spotted Westlothianscoobs old wagon there and someone about to jump in.  I knew this was a newbie and hollered out across the pit area.  It was AlanK and was about to head home but cause some idiot hollered at him, he decided to sit down with a few other members for a warm cuppa and he got to know a few of us.  Now after chatting on MSN a couple of times we are due to get married in the summer.....................[:)]

Very good thread !!

I agree with everything that was saidd in teh first post. People join SIDC and want to meet other enthusiasts, exchange knowledge or learn and made welcome.

Does this happen though in practise?? I dont think so.

Its hard going when you first join SIDC if your failry quiet and people tend to be less approachable than they should be.

Its easy to get caught up in our own conversations.cars, mods, etc and we should make an effort to walk over to people and say "hi my names x y z, pleased to meet you"

I think I have experienced both ends of the spectrum - from standing at KH wondering who the fek everyone was and wishing I had enough bottle to introduce myself a bit more to sitting in the pub wondering what the fek everyone was talking about and if was even something to do with cars...  (although KH was helped immensely by Squirrel for which I am very appreciative) -

Waiting for my jacket so solve that problem in the future!

Still early days and I don't really know anyone all that well however from what I have seen and heard I reckon that is all just a matter of time and getting out and about a bit more (assuming I don't mortally offend anyone and end up being ostriched of course) [:'(]

Dont know where in Fife you are but I am sure either the next Central or Edinburgh/Lothians meet should be close enough to you to allow you to come along along for something to eat (and if your there it will make me feel like less of a newbie! [;)] )

Having said all that - I thought you were a regular from your posts and knowledge about cars & whiteline stuff - pls come along so I can get some advice on what to do with my wagon as I know jack s*it about cars or scoobys other than I LOVE it !! [:)][:D]

My first encounter with sidc members was at crail in october before i even had my subaru. Was nervous about going over and introducing myself so did not bother, it was craig mac who came up and introduced himself and said to come and meet everyone else. When i went up and was introduced i got a nice warm welcome and had a good laugh the rest of the day.

Missed KH  as you all know as i only made it past perth but had more confidence and would have just done what peter (fai17) said, stand up and say who you are.

I have a very simple solution...............

Let's all grow Mullets for the purposes of SIDC identification !

Nica idea Cal but I think SIDC members are already easy enough to spot
