knocking from the rear??

hi folks just got my first impreza 3 weeks ago and when im going slow there is a horrible knocking noise from the n/s rear its sounds like the top of the strut is loose but i goes awy now and again its weird.... any ideas??

If it is a newage STI then it is a common problem on 03/04 cars in particular.  Needs a new strut IIRC.

Hey bud, welcome to the club.

On the subject of the noise, yes it is your n/s rear strut. So commonplace on newage's that subaru replace both them now if the vehicle is under m'fcturer warranty.

How old is your motor? Did you get it from dealer? if so take it back and get them replaced.

Yep rear struts,

Mine has been going for a while & since the other day is now knocking quite bad, most noticable at slower/town speed.

Been waiting for this to happen as it seems every other newage has had them replaced at least once.

Warranty claim if you have one.

I had the dreaded knocking noise on my 53plate STI. Got the strut replaced no worries. I`ve now got a 55plate STI with more of a tapping noise. Same side (NSR), keep thinking its the jack but I defo feel its NOT the strut as its not got that feeling. There was talk of the Trackstar motion sensor ball making a noise, anyone else heard this?
