strapper Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Thinkinig in buying one of these as a weekend toy as they look like the awsome rally machines! What is the story with the gearing in them I have heard they only do 115mph is this true? Could I have some feed back from some owners of them? Cheers
frank c Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 www.type-ra.co.uk Here's another option mate.. Frank
Guest Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 think u will find it's alot more like 130mph plus basically it is a light weight sti no mod cons at all including radio in the one i was in. was a member on here who took me for a spin 337bhp unbelievable power and grip!! get them pretty cheap now aswell 6k ish!!
the squiggle Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 First off it is called a STI RA V Limited of which there were 555 made There are 2 members on the board with these fine cars, Mckelvr and Micra-wrc (Imy, my other half) both own 1996 V Limited and find that they truely are awesome cars Top speed with the limiter in place is 112mph and without the limiter it is around 120mph but the accel is ballistic for a std car with 60 coming in at under 5 secs. Some of the V Limited s come with Air-con, electric windows, central locking and some do not, it entirely depends on what the first owner in Japan ticked at the Subaru showroom when ordering the car The 1996 V Limited is the first car the Subaru sold out of in Japan before the production run began, so the cars are individully specced. Imy's car comes with Air con, electric windows and quick rack steering, other cars vary as to spec and equip HTH Grant
james666 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 i also have a 555 sti wagon, but mine is not a limited one its just a specail edition. still dunno the diff.
micra_wrc Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 to answer the original question, yes the gearing is high which makes motorway miles slightly .. er ... unusualI didnt want a car that had ridiculous top speed, I wanted the torque and the oomph when you accelerate. To me, it doesnt make sensehaving a car that can do amazing top speeds cos a) you'll get done forspeeding; you'll probably lose it in a big way and injure yourselfand/or the car and c) there is no where in Scotland you can go to getto those speeds anyway goodies that are standard in theRA include DCCD, 5th injector, short shift gear box, quick racksteering and lighter chassis and panels (god i've been hangingaround Squirrel too long LoL) more pics can be found in my weight competition thread (which we still need to do BTW) here......http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/758973/ShowPost.aspx
mckelvr Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 yep ive got the other one mine has wind up windows. the gearing is a bit mad on them i wouldnt reccomend driving to bournemouth in it ..but they are great fun though especially in this weather he he
james666 Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 my wagon has air con elec windows and mirrors, and has the short shifter and close ratio box.
the squiggle Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Quote my wagon has air con elec windows and mirrors, and has the short shifter and close ratio box. James, your car is the wagon equivelent of mine. Not 100% sure on the build number but 200 comes to mind for some reason. I will check the Jap literature to see what it throws up
eurosti Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Sorry to Hijack but a few questions for you RA owners 1 is the zero sports bodykit standard on the 555 like yours squirrel? 2 ive read somewhere that the 5th injector is a dummy therefore does nothing? Is there any fact in Q2? One last one is James,s car a Wagon SA ie the lightweight very rare version available in 1994 only.
james666 Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 as far as i know which is not much bout these as only had it a month and a fun 1 at that. mine is just a plain old 555 wagon no sa or ra and is a 95
eurosti Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Cheers Jamsie ive yet to find anyone with a Wagon SA rarer than i originally thought!

The fifth injector is wired in fuel and electrical wise but is not used by the ECU at all. It an be used with certain aftermarket ECU's. It was there as part of the homologation regs for the Grp N and Grp A car of the time. The SA Wagon is indeed rare but there is one in Lanark, basically a stripped out wagon a near RA gearing and wind up windows
eurosti Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Cheers Grant that answers all my Q,s my mate had the same kit on his wrx but had the slats filled and blended in looks much better imo. Thanx again Stu[Y]
