JamesF Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 After making some big bhp mods to my Newage WRX I'm going to have to fit one of the above. Anyone done this themselves and be willing to do it again and give me a hand ? I'm in Edinburgh by the way but I will happily travel within reason. James.
Fee Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Like a baffle kit? We've just bought a Tomei baffle kit for the Skyline...apparently just bolts into the sump quite simple....unfortunately with the Skyline its an engine out job though....so going to be gettiing it done by the professionals
JamesF Posted November 15, 2006 Author Posted November 15, 2006 I don't think it's a baffle kit Fee. There's a few pipes that are linked in to the existing breather pipes that vent any excess oil pushed in to these breathers, when under heavy acceleration, into a small alluminium tank. It's only supposed to be about 45 mins to an hour for the fitting ! James.
GrantyBoy Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 nothing like a baffle kit Catch can collects the oil vapors in the breather system. Do a search Scoobynet and there should be a guide to help you out
fai17 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I've got a Cossie Forge Baffled Oil Catch Can that vents gases to atmosphere and oil vapour back into the sump so that i'll never run short of oil like normal oil catch can. ie....when you have to empty your 1 liter oil catch can because it's full......which means your sump is 1 liter short of oil...you work out the rest for yourelf[] If you need anymore info...just ask[]
drb5 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Or you can just have all the breathers vented to atmosphere. True, you can't then tell how much oil is disappearing, but you should be regularly checking your level anyway. Ignorance is bliss. []

[] I tried that and the car smoked like hell when i'm coming out of the hairpin at KH or any tight bends on the road at full throttle..plus the back end of the car was covered in oil particules after a blast.[] I lost something like 1/2 to 1 liter of oil in 3 weeks of driving[] but all is well now and not losing any oil at all[]
drb5 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 How was the pipework fitted Peter? Sounds a bit strange, as the catch can doesn't literally stop oil use, but merely "catches" it. It wouldn't/shouldn't change anything, is what i mean.

drb5 Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 You do know that condensation is also very much in your catch can don't you?
fai17 Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Yes that's why it's baffled......condensation and gases get vented to atmosphere by another pipe work. Cosworth Oil Separator (All Cosworths)
drb5 Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Very good. [H] I'll be sticking to not having one though......weight saving. [][]
