Guest greegsy Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Hi all. My road tax runs out for my scoob at the end of november and I have been thinking about declaring it off the road or SORN and keeping it in my garage over the winter months. I have a H plate 1 litre polo to keep me going (hopefully!) over the winter months. It sounds like a sensible idea keeping the car all dry and salt free but I know after a few weeks one cold and crisp sunday morning that I'll be itching to take it out for a blast! Anyone else thinking about doing the same or tried/done this last winter? Greegsy
4Hero Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 scoobies were made for the snow [] Keep it on the road mate []
ANDYJDMSTI Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 After you have been out in it and it has crap on it just hose it off. That is what i always do, then the next day give it a proper wash. Having the car sat in the garage will only pi$$ you off everytime you look at it and it also takes away the temptation of taking it for a late night run and getting pulled.
GaryD Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I've done the opposite, our scooby will be used all year round and my J-Reg 1.3 polo is kept for the good summer weather! [] Its a good idea tho, keeps your car good, and will save you on fuel, road tax and insurance.
wrxmania Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Keep it on the road - I'd rather hardly use mine but have it available than not be able to use it when I feel the need - that's why we spend so much money on them []
wrxchris Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 mine is comin off the road, but only so the good stuff can start!!!!
TheCrow Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Im waiting for winter, std wagons are prity boreing in anything apart from snow. Unless u plan on working on it as a summer show car, you have more fun driving it that looking at it.
DR Motosport Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Last year I was given a 1.8 GL Impreza FOC, still 4wd but with 240,000 miles on it. Hence the FOC. Used it last winter as it was taxed and Mot'd til March. So on the snowy and icy days, it was still great fun, but with that don't give a damn attitude if it gets bashed. We even had a Sunday morning in a carpark in March with some friends having a best donuts competition - or first to blow the engine competition. It didn't blow. So have a look in Autotrader, some of those old GL's and Sports only go for a few hundred pounds now. David
gus the bus Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I have the Saxo for day to day use but the Scoob will be kept taxed year round. As has been said above you never know when the weather will be right[] or wrong[] Gus
scientific steve Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 a couple of years back when i owned the beemer, i bought a fiesta 1.1 for the winter cause i knew that with rear wheel drive the bmw was going to be worse than greased up sumo in the snow but, i still kept both cars taxed and insured, i found that i only used the fiesta when i had to. so that would be about maybe about 4 weeks out of 5 months................
sti pretender Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Keep it on the road. Last year in the snow only two cars got out my street. My neighbour in this 4x4 and me in the scooby. Most of the neighbours tried and gave up.
gubderSTI Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 You will have alot of fun in the snomw mate Steve
duncan_stephen Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 just tried and failed at this. Took it off the road and declared SORN, only lasted a month. Going to the post office tomorrow to get some tax. [:$] I always use my 306 DTurbo for through the week - to and from work, but missed the scoob for that odd night / day that you fancy a blast. []
Guest greegsy Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Looks like I'll tax the scooby then! After reading the replies I've kind of talked myself out of taking it off the road. Greegsy
johnnyr6 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I found mine fun, but quite a liability in the snow. ( no abs and 300 ponies through 215 wide tyres is interesting). Only thing i did in the snow with it was donuts in thye middle of the glasgow fort..[]
rstoughy Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Deffo keep it road legal through the winter M8. We get some pretty good days so it would just pi$$ you off if the sun was out and the cars sat there with no Tax on it. Keep it Legal and enjoy it[H]
