philip_wilson Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 [*-)] race some "fast" fords pmsl [:'(]
wrxchris Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 is there such a thing as a 'fast' ford. one of the bosses at my work, thinks the new st focus is faster than my wrx!!!!
RS Grant Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I take it you've not heard of any of the cars that come from the Reyland stable......... and depending what WRX you have, the Focus may well be faster than it. [] Cheers, Grant
wrxchris Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 a few fast cars from reyland dont make up for plenty of fast scoobs. and erm the st might beat my wrx.............. but i seriously doubt that
RS Grant Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 With around a grand spent, you have 330bhp in a Cosworth, you can pick one, 1987-1998, all the same... extremely simple to tune and once tuned, they are very quick. IMO. I know for a fact that you need a lot more wedge to get the same from a Scoob, although the Subaru will have slightly less transmission losses from its 4wd system than the Ford 4wd transmission has and a Classic Impreza is probably a bit lighter than any of the Cosworth bodystyles. I'd like to make clear at this point that I'm discussing the performance of Cosworths vs Imprezas and not concentrating on the potential downsides of Cosworth Ownership like rust, reliability, etc... [] Cheers, Grant
sandyRS16i Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I will be at Crail on Sunday as ever Just to add my opinions to the debate, the tuning capability of the Ford YB found in Cossies is awsome and as said for a grand you can easily get from the standard 220(ish) bhp to 330 (stage 3) with simple mods, induction kit, decat, green injectors, 3 bar map sensor and a chip. Fords are highly tuneable and so easy to work on, it means that most will be running circa 300bhp, which is more than enough to compete with a standard STi. When it comes down to it the issues with Fords are the age of the cars, the technology is easy to work with and parts cheap and plentiful but the newest RS Cossie is over 10 years old now and as such are not reliable and suffer from rust........Subarus are great fun and i'm happy with mine, but they do look crap IMO next to an Escos......Problem is that Subarus are so common now that everyone thinks they are all the same as the styling diferences are so subtle between models, where as cossies just look and tell you what they are...... Think there is a lot of pedigree to both marques, as for performance, cossies are easier and cheaper to tune than the subaru, but IMO both are great cars...........
