Was out a crail on Sunday for the club day. When driving there and back was taking it easy trying to keep the car clean. Didnt go up the strip either. Now I have managed just under 200mls to half a tank of fuel (must be a new record).

This is not the problem, very happy with that. This afternoon had the car out for a bit of a blast, everything was fine all the way through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear now in 4th when the car was held on boost for a bit longer up to about 16-17psi on the boost gauge at just under 4000rpm the car seemed to drop all power. It was like hitting a brick wall.

It still drives ok, doesn't have any loss of power anywhere else. It just stops accelerating. Now I have been running Shell V Power fuel in it for around 7-8 full tanks now. To be honest have noticed the car running slightly better. Watching the boost gauge more closley today it does seem to be slighlty higher than normal aswell.

Was just looking for some pointers if anybody has any idea whot the problem could be.

Cheers Graham.

The solenoid that needs cleaned is located infront of the drivers side suspension turret.

It is held on with two 10mm nuts. Has two pipes going into it. One from the bottom and one from the side.

It has a loom coming out the top, its around two or three inches long.

Make sure you note the way round the pipe work goes on (cant go wrong tbh) and remove it from the bracket.

Clean it with some solvent based de greaser, ie. Brake cleaner.

Spray some in either end and if possible, blow it through with an airline.

Re fit in the reverse order of removal and enjoy benefits

I can manage with most things. If I'm pointed in the right direction. Fairly well tooled up.

As for the fuel consumption. I know, going for a world record. Never went over 60mph the whole wat to crail and back otherwise the flys stick to the front end.

Were you getting towed coming back from crail?

200 miles to half a tank?????

I get average of 220 to a full tank!

If you were running off boost for most of the milage then its more than possible.

I had well over 200 to half a tank when we were on holiday in the lakes about five years ago in our MY98 UK car.

I know this is major milage but I hardly boosted it on the way there or the way back, also sitting at a steady speed.

I'm the same normally though. If i get 220mls to a tank thats an achievement.

You said there about the benifits of cleaning it out. Obviously its not going to cut out, but should I notice much more difference?

Is there anything else like that I can do like that, that would maybe give that bit more or make things run better/smoother. A while back I went round all the hoses and found a few that were slack. So tightend them up and noticed a slight difference there.

Cheers again

You wont get any more performance, just the fact that you will be able to keep the foot down till you need to shift up a gear.

Small checks for performance will be limited to plug gap, Air filter quality, correct gearbox and diff oils(drag) tyre pressures, engine oil, good octane fuel.

Sounds silly, but they all add up.

Well, its just my tuppence worth.

Some folk like to buy "Max power" add ons for their scoobys and pretend their car is going faster.

Do the simple, straight forward stuff first and then look at the companies or (the small amount) of tuners that can get good results.

Ones who have a good record in Rallying are a good start.

Im sure there are one or two on here that can confirm this.

Was never really into the whole "Max Power" scene. Don't get me wrong, got nothing against modding. Totally into my motors as much as the next person.

Done all the basics to the car already. Was just looking for any of the small improvemnts that can be done to help the overall.
