Subarstar Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Hoping to get new shocks fitted at the weekend by a mate who's a mechanic. He suggested that if I strip out the back parcel shelf/seats myself it could save a bit of time. Does anyone know what to remove to expose the top mounts for the rear shocks? Do I need to strip out the parcel shelf, or would removing the back seats allow access. (Tried posting in Technical, but no-one responded.......yet!) Cheers, norry.
FastScooby Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 When I done my shock .. it was just the 5 or 6 bolts for the seat... you need a 12mm socket and a spanner to get at the one at the back... just prepare for sore knuckles [:S] if the spanner slips.. the bottom ones at the hub are straight forward
AlanG Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Assuming it's a 4 door saloon use a 12mm socket to remove the two bolts which hold the seat base. The seat base then unclips in the centre, just push the seat base down and towards the rear of the car a little to release it. Using same 12mm socket, remove 3 bolts for the seat back which you'll now see after removing the seat base. One at either end and one in the middle. The top of the seat back now just lifts upwards to clear the retaining lugs. No need to remove parcel shelf. Top of strut is held by 3 nuts (10mm socket and/or ring spanner) and the bottom strut bolts are removed with 19mm ring spanners/socket
the squiggle Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Just be careful when removing the brake pipes from the bracket Long time Norrie, is that your car down just off the one way system in paisley
Subarstar Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 Cheers for the replies guys. Took the seats out last night, no bother at all. Grant, how's it going m8. I've been keeping quiet. Not been on any runs/meets recently to catch up, but I'll try and get along to something soon to check out your new wheels. And yes, that's my car. Working in Paisley now. You must have eyes like a hawk, spotting my car up there. (Sorry, hope that's not offensive to squirrels.) norry.
