STi_Bandit Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 As some as you know Iam a keen Downhill Mountain Biker and take Part in Races. Now some of you may remember the Incident where a guy drove his car with 3 defective tyres, crashed on a country road into a group of road bikers and killing 4 of them TODAY HE WAS SENTANCED He was given £180 fine and 6 Penalty points for killing 4 people.[:@][:@] Because his tyres were defective but were only considered dangerous in the wet he was basically let off with a slap on the wrist. http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,300...3536165,00.html Martin

G.Mac Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 [:@]this country SUCKS!!!!!!! you can kill 4 people and get a £180 fine and 6 points but if you speed, eat or talk on the phone yer a fecking criminal, shocking[:@]
oz *sti* Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 what the FU*K that's not right in my book at all [:@][:@]
oobster Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 In the interests of fairness I feel I should point out that he skidded on ice, which you omitted from your "rant". He was also sentenced on Friday, not today. Whilst the loss of any life is tragic I think it's important to realise that this man did not deliberatley drive his car into these people. He skidded on ice. Yes, his tyres were below the legal limit but the whole point of driving about with tread on our tyres is to disperse water - otherwise we would all be driving about on slicks. So I don't think his tyres would make any difference if he is gliding over ice, and it would appear that is also the opinion of the police accident investigators. Of course, if one of my loved ones had perished in similar circumstances I would want the man's head on a stick (probably) but I think this man was fairly sentenced for his crime. Perhaps the relatives should be looking at taking action against the local highways department for failing to grit the road, but I am not in possesion of the full facts behind this crash. It is also worth noting that this man's speed has not been mentioned in anyof the reports i've seen so that probably wasn't a factor.
z1000 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Always two sides to every story. He also has to live with what he's done for the rest of his life which can't be nice.
thefastone Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 And to think, that there was that bikers the other year, that got jailed for 2 years just for speeding.... The Mind Boggles.... [:@]

andy Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I'm totally with Oobster on this one. Black ice was the cause, NOT defective tyres - plus as has been correctly pointed out he has to live with this for the rest of his life. Years back a relative who was a serving in the emergency services at the time and dedicated his life to saving lives hit a cyclist and killed him after the cyclist swerved in front of him. The post mortem determined the cyclist had been stung in the eye by a wasp. Relative totally blameless, but he couldn't handle it. Turned to the drink and life went downhill pretty fast from there.
philip_wilson Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Welcome to Tony Blair's GREAT BRITAIN and the fecked up Justus system setup to protect the criminal and to rob the motorist to fund so called war onterror.
STi_Bandit Posted August 8, 2006 Author Posted August 8, 2006 Andy, I agree with what your saying that neither you or I are equipped with the full facts of the case, and iam sure that the driver has nothing but remorse for what has happened and has to live with the tragic events for the rest of his life. Upon reading this article, it brought memorys for me of when i used to cycle on the road and was knocked off when an hgv's wing mirror hit my head as he overtoke me and drove off, not that my experance has any comparison to what happened here, but i hope you can understand why i was so upset. Martin
oobster Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Sure Martin.... I didn't mean any offence by my post, I was just wanting to put my view across.

I think there is still one big flaw in your argument, he STILL HAD 3 ILLEGAL TYRES, which ment he SHOULDNT have been on the road, the car was unroadworthy and should NEVER have been on the road in the first place!!!!!!!!!! It should be the same as if he never had any insurance, he shouldnt have been on the road, therefor the accident should have been his fault!!!! Its not that hard to dip the oil and do the relevant safety checks to your vehicle once a week!!!! Graeme
