seafar99 Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Just a quick question. Will 225/45/17 tyres fit on a classic?.........with standard STI suspension. thankd in advance.
the squiggle Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I have them on mine and they do fit but a slight bit of rubbing on the strut leg under severe cornering. I am gonna source some 5,mm spacers to give a tad more clearence
slo2 Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Good question as they are very tight on a UK Turbo classic. In fact so tight that I was feart to drive it , so I was considering upgrading the suspension then running bigger wheels. Would 225/35/17 fit without fouling on standard suspension?
the squiggle Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I think the 225 is the problem and not the 45 part although having 35 profile will reduce the amount of movement in the sidewall under hard cornering in comparison to 45 profile.
seafar99 Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 it's the 225 bit i was worried about Grant, at present i'm running 215/45/17 which seem perfect. Though i'm sure my power steering is going to be a bit more pissed off!
slo2 Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Cheers aswell Grant, Im going to swap mine over tomorrow and go for a drive, hopefully with no rubbin!!
slo2 Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Change the wheels over today (standard Sti 17" fitted with 225 x 45 x 17) and the tyre rub. They miss the inner strut at the rear by mm but they foul with the body work. Rub slightly . Do I / Should I get the edge of the arches rolled to allow a couple of mm clearance or should I up grade to STi suspension (thus preventing the wheel to travel so far up) or forget it and just put the wheels back in the garage ?
z1000 Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 What are the wheels/tyres like as i have a set of 17" tsw catalunyas with nearly brand new yokohama 205/45/17's that fit a classic but no good as i now have an '03 STi so we could maybe do a swap/deal of some sort ?
