duncan_stephen Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Right after reading all of this post I thought I 'd add my experiences in this matter. I picked up my scoob on Saturday and headed to KH with a few Evo's. When I gave the car some right foot in fifth at about 60, my car had the same problem. Seemed to be fuel starvation for a split second. Has now done this 3 or 4 times in 3 days of ownership. Car is a 97 catalunya. Engine is pretty much standard other than a scoobysport backbox. Always had lots of fuel in the tank (never less than 1/2 tank) First time was going into a corner (so put it down to fuel slosh) but next two (1 with a full tank) was on a straight. I am waiting for the boost guage to arive. Have put the car in my garage and it will be staying there till I can find what is happening. Any ideas guys????
johnnyr6 Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Dunc, i had a similar prob, turned out to be the maf on the way out. Do you run an aftermarket filter?? Is you air inlet track clean?? Now i always get fuel cut but thats because i'm hitting over 1.2 bar boost on the standard ecu....Woo Hoo!!

Now i always get fuel cut but thats because i'm hitting over 1.2 bar boost on the standard ecu....Woo Hoo!! Thanks for the info. I'll try and get another MAF and see if that helps. The track seems clean enough. I've got a KandN pannel filter but no induction kit or mushroom filter. Looking to get a few little niggles sorted before I even think about touching the boost. Mmmmmmmm looking forward to that.
andrew_lally Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 i got the same prob as johnyR6 due to hitting 1.2 bar on standard ecu!!! there are plenty tuning companies that will raise this fuel cut limiter...i know HKS do one for roughly £95 i believe its something to do with the pre 97 cars only having a 2 bar map sensor!!! 1.1bar and you kinda at the limits of the map sensor/ecu.....but im sure the experts on here will correct me!!!! regards andy ps..what ecu you running johnyR6????
johnnyr6 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Standard m8, i've got a fcd waiting to go on but can't be a#sed fitting it. Need to sort out my, diff, box, wheelbearing prob first...lol.
andrew_lally Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 i know the feeling mate.....just getting back on top o mines after gearbox, diff, struts all round and brake overhaul!!! the track just kills them hahahaah later andy
duncan_stephen Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Went in past Japerformance and spoke to Simon for a few minutes last night. He recons it could be overboost or the MAF. Will prob take it round to him on Saturday and give him a look see. Will also be good to know what boost its running.
RA Dunk Posted July 5, 2006 Author Posted July 5, 2006 keep me updated m8 as im suffering similar probs but cant do sh!t about it just now as im waiting to go offshore

Will prob take it round to him on Saturday and give him a look see. Will also be good to know what boost its running. Didn't I (and a few others say that could be your problems! Although I am thinking the overboost is possible due to Decat ( you said it was standard) or a split it the BCS hoses ( they are up to 9 years old after all!) Maf would give lumpy idle as an indicator. Get him to check AFR's to give an idication if it is this. Russell
duncan_stephen Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Ok, thanks again for the info. Took the car out last night and it was fine. It's going round to Simon at 7:30pm tonight. Hope we can get to the bottom of this coz the weather is nice at the moment and it would be good to be able to use the car without worrying about this. Will let you know what we find.
duncan_stephen Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Well I had it on the RR last night and the car behaved as it should. No real probs to report as such. It does have a boost spike but nothing major. Couldn't see anything to cause the fuel cut to come in. Took it out for a good road test and there was no probs. Even in 5'th (where the problem was in the first place) Going to change the MAF and vacume lines soon anyway (some of them are a bit hard), then get a boost controler. Its only going to get worse when I fit a full system with de-cat.
