Thinking of bringing the Spec C to the Isle of Man for a drive of the TT

circuit. Any tips on where to stay, when is good to go, where to get

Optimax from?

Cheers,

Hi Paul.

When were you thinking of coming (this summer)?

Would you want to stay in a hotel or b+b

A good time to come would be the first week of August. The Rally isle of man(ex manx international) is on from thurs 3rd till saturday 5th. august. It is billed as the fastest and hardest tarmac rally around. 130 + competitors.Loads of scoobs. Check out www.visitisleofman.com. But you may need to book a bit earlier just incase. Don't worry to much about car theft, it is quite rare over here. There are some cars coming over from the uk that week to do a bit of marshalling and driving about a bit etc. Richard our (almost retired) sidc organiser may be able to give you more info if he sees this post.

We don't sell optimax on the island, but do have super, and Richard stocks octain booster in his filling station shop in onchan.

It has been a bit quiet on here recently. Someone else may give you a bit more info soon.

Hope this is of some help.

Thanks for your post Graeme - very helpful. We were thinking of coming over that week but will probably have to head back before the rally starts unfortunately (may see if we can stretch the visit). Do you know if they close the roads far ahead of the rally? Would be a shame to get over there and not be able to drive 'scooby island' to the max.

Looking for a good B&B too - nothing fancy just friendly and comfortable.

Hi Pauldyson, lots of good B&B 's around the tourist board will be able to give you more info on these. If you can stretch to stay for the rally it would be good to meet you, we are a friendly bunch.

The stages are only shut on the days of the rally for aprox 4 to 6 hrs at a time, and don't touch the mountain road, or any real major roads. Plenty of places to drive, don't worry about that. As for a bb, there are plenty to choose from, if you like it quiet the west of the island (not just coz i live on the west) 3 miles or 2 mins on straight unrestricted roads from the TT course at Ballacraine [H] [:D]. 15/20 mins from Douglas. Or if you want to be near the night life then probably Douglas [pi] , the whole island is good. I used to send people to bb at the end of Peel prom called Fernleigh, clean, friendly and no frills or next door to that is the Waldick which is similar.Only thing is, if the sea gets rough, it tends to spray a bit down there.Check out the tourist website, have a look to see if you like any of the bb's listed get back to me on here, and will tell you as much about your choice and where it is as i can. Unless some one else on here has any sugestions.

Just remembered, my neighbours are now a BB. They are a couple aged 60, very nice people. Not been in their house before, but must be ok to have had it passed. Its called Gien Mie and has 3 dimonds what ever that means. And they are in Peel, on the web site aswell i belive. Have a root about anyway ,and get back to me.

cheers
