lazscooby Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 hi. After a few problems with my scoob not starting it boiled down to the fuel guard on the alarm but in the process i bought a walbro fuel pump for my99 uk turbo. I thought i'd fit it anyway but now when its idleing it goes fast/slow due to the increased fuel pump rate. Will this sort its self out with a ecu reset or is it remap time? The car has no power mods just downpipe, hi-flow cat, panel filter and d/v. Any advice will be well recieved. Thanks
euan_r Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 no a mechanic or any thing ,but were the three rubber pipes going to fuel pump in good order and securley tightened up. just a thought could be bit of air getting in.
lazscooby Posted June 24, 2006 Author Posted June 24, 2006 yeah all double checked. old pump fuels at 190 litres/hour and new 255 litres/hour but would have thought regulator would sort this out.
euan_r Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 aye just done mine this afternoon didnt notice any difference in idle.
wilky Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 It is and your walbro is probably humping your oe fuel pressure regulator. Perhapes an uprated one is the best course. Callum W
AlanG Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 I'd be inclined to do an ecu reset. Could be an idle stepper motor problem (may need a quick clean) Having said that i wouldn't have put a new pump in until i'd sorted the other problem out! Deal with one fault at a time. []
lazscooby Posted June 24, 2006 Author Posted June 24, 2006 where is the idle stepper motor located? what is best to clean with. Thanks
lazscooby Posted June 24, 2006 Author Posted June 24, 2006 got the fuel guard prob sorted but thought i'd be smart and uprate the fuel pump. Should have left alone eh?
euan_r Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 i used new filter. Unable to check if theres any difference as still waiting for delivery of new discs. My day off as well when i usually take scoob out for a spin :-( Anybody know if whacking in bigger injectors will give any more performance without doing remap
AlanG Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 See when you had the starting problem? did you have an idling problem at that time as well? If not, then as has been said above, it could be down to the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) which isn't able to maintain set fuel pressure because of the new pump, but i've never came across a car which had a problem with the FPR (though there may be examples out there) "Should have left alone eh?" Nah! Not at all. Is an excuse to allow you to do more mods on the car! [] What's this fuel guard thing with the alarm? Do you not have the std Sigma M30 in there or is it a euro car and so has an aftermarket alarm fitted? euan-r Short answer, no Slightly longer one is that your map will tell your injector to open up x amount for whatever zone. With a bigger injector, it'll open up the same amount but will flow more fuel (richer) cause the injector is bigger. If in close loop though, the ecu will try and reduce the amount of fuel that's going into the engine.
lazscooby Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 the car was running well then the remote fuel guard which is part of blackjax {clifford 600} started cutting fuel off when it felt like it. got that fixed and was running sweet again until i replaced pump! Jobbies
AlanG Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I'd have thought the std regulator should still maintain it's set fuel pressure, but if the car was fine before and isn't now and that's the only thing you've changed, then sounds like you need an alternative FPR.
