Anonymous Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 I believe so! Tesco stands for Tessie Cohen[] Piece of useless information number 326[:$] The Tesco brand first appeared in 1924 The name derived after Jack Cohen bought a large shipment of tea from T.E. Stockwell (formerly Messrs Torring and Stockwell of Mincing Lane), he made new labels by using the first three letters of the supplier's name and the first two letters of his surname forming the word "TESCO". There is a wide mis-conception that the name is an abbreviation of the name of Jack Cohen's wife, Tessa Cohen, becoming TESCO - however this is wrong as Cohen was never married to a Tessa.

mmalbon Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I filled my STi Type UK on Tesco 99 and it ran really well. After all, all fuel comes from the same refineries, all they do for stuff like BP Ulitimate ad Shell Optiax is add additives, so you can expect long term gains as they contain stuff like cleaning agents (remember the pictures of the valves in the EVO article after using various different types of fuel?). The best thing to use for cars like scooby turbos is the highest octane fuel available as the engine management can make use of it. Having said all that, I've no idea whether Tesco 99 is actually 99 octane - it may well just be a marketing name for regular UK 97 octane super unleaded fuel like most other garages have.
Little H Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Tesco 99 is 99ron but is no way as effective as Shell. Yes all fuels in theory are the same but when power run tests were performed with Optimax against leading 98 and 99 ron equivalent the Shell fuels produced upto 10bhp more than the other fuels. Ive used Tesco 99ron and to be fair my car ran nice on it, but its preference really.
mmalbon Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Some more info relevant here, quite a good article actually, although missing hard facts as usual ...
