weeb Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 hi, i got a road angel and would like it hard wired in! am nae gid with this kinda stuff! anyone fancy doing this for me?? am in falkirk and willing to travel (not far tho) cheers
weeb Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 a take it a just cut the fag lighter bit of the cable, feed the wire through to battery and wire up??
st3ph3n Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I hooked mine into the back of the cigarette lighter socket originally. That worked fine.
shaun_odonnell Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 NO!!!!!!!!!!!! It'll need to be wired into the fusebox to only come on when the ignitions on, otherwise you'll flatten you battery or even risk an electrical fire.
weeb Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 see what a mean! i aint got a fag lighter in me car! loads o wires behind stereo tho!!
shaun_odonnell Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I hooked mine into the back of the cigarette lighter socket originally. That worked fine. Or this way, as the cigarette lighter (or is it a cigar lighter now? I think they changed the terminology to be a bit more manly, anyway) will only be live when the ignition's on.
shaun_odonnell Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 see what a mean! i aint got a fag lighter in me car! loads o wires behind stereo tho!! Does the angel have a constant power supply and also a remote supply to tell it to switch on? If so then you could bridge into the positive supply to the headunit and also the ignition wire.
weeb Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 u have me confussed there!! it has battery to keep the stored info when car is switched off!
shaun_odonnell Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 In that case you could probably use the ignition wire that goes to the head unit for your power supply (but I would prefer not to do this as this is a small current and may not be up to the job of powering the Road Angel and could melt the wire (edited)) to the road angel. Or use the constant supply to the head unit and fit a seperate switch. What does the fitting instructions recommend?
weeb Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 its says - u can hard wire by removing CIGAR socket, the cable must then be fitted with an in-line 3a fuse!
shaun_odonnell Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 You probably have the wiring behind there for the CIGAR (love it when on the odd occasion I get something right) lighter already, In which case you're laughing. Test for the positive, making sure it goes on and off with the ignition, fit the 3amp in line fuse, fit the earth, and bobs your mothers brother. The hard part will be routing the wires out the way.
