graham_nairn Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 My car is due a major service in the next few weeks. Belts included. Seen as the belts will be getting changed had planned to upgrade the pulleys at the same time. Has anybody used lightened pulleys before. If so was it worth it? Have had a look at Roger Clark's website they have some nice new ones that only weigh 800grams! I already have a lightended flywheel. Cheers Graham
ANDYJDMSTI Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 The crank pulley is the best one to get done as the rest are mainly just cosmetic.
drb5 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Andy's right, but it then puts strain on the internals a bit, as the crank, flywheel and crank pulley, are all balanced accordingly. By changing the weight at one side, your off putting the balance. You could then say, i'll fit a lightened flywheel, but to get back to the harmonic balance, the 3 lots, should again all be balanced. It's a dodgy subject somewhat, but for all you'll gain, i'd leave it alone. The more force, the more torque. [] Besides, there's actually a damper in the OE crank pulley, the aftermarket ones...there isn't, this again puts pressure on the engine. Remember, i'm saying it's minimal and i doubt you'd do any damage, or have any problems, but you did ask. []
graham_nairn Posted May 3, 2006 Author Posted May 3, 2006 Cheers guys. I did wonder about putting stresses elsewhere. They're not the cheapest of items either for what they are. Think I'll put the money to other uses. Thanks again.
